where are some decent places to buy one, seems they are either scarce or overpriced

Call them up. They'll get some more in. In the mean time, make sure you buy a Power Custom SAR-3 hammer and trigger group. The hammer that comes with the SAR-3 is too soft.

have you called wholesale guns and ammo? they may have some left.
as advised, get yourself the redstararms trigger set with the hammer that is specifically designed for the sar-3.
