Does anyone have one of Redstar's extended maga releases.. If so please give your opinion on it.

It looks like a good design,,, Is a lighter spring required?

Tried one, hated it.  My dad bought one, hated it. This is not an attack on them or their products, ( I have spent a ton of cash with them) but this is something I found to be odd to use, and would snag on anything around it.

Stokes I think you will find greatly varying opinion on the matter. Some people don't like the extra length of the extended levers. Anything that is longer than normal can be blamed for snagging stuff.

I developed it mainly for 3-gun so the AK could get closer to the mag change speed of the AR15. It really does speed up your mag changes when used as intended. My design is even "snaggier" than the one they sell because it has the longer tab projecting downward.

Early prototype shown below.

obe,
I don't own one, but from my obeservation that would be the case. I personally have no problem with the orig. Kalash design.

Postban,

Thanks Bro.. I remember now when you said you were going to make some. It has been a long time ago. I remember you and packrat talking about it on the board. I like the idea of a quicker mag release..

One question is the extended lower tang needed for structural strength or can it be cut out and just the wings used?

I'm just guessing that the snag that everyone refers to is the extended lower tang.

Another question did you try a prototype taking the wing back all the way on one side so the thumb could be use to release instead of the finger?

The lower tab is there on mine, not on RSA's. I figured it was still necessary and it never bothered me.

Never tried a super long thumb release like you ask. I wanted an ambi quick release so I stopped when I got there.
