| I'm thinking about getting a AK since my buddy just got one and I like it. I already got an AR15, and I was wondering if getting an SAR3 would be a good idea since they accept the same ammo? Is the SAR2 ok, and is ammo relatively cheap for it? Or should I just get a SAR1? |

My feeling is if you are going to get an AK, get an AK caliber. The tapered cartridge case makes extraction more reliable and is part of the Russian smallarms design philosophy. For an AR shooter the attention to trajectory and wind required with the 7.62x39mm will take you back to your BB gun days. It is fun to try to master. The 5.45x39mm is just plain wicked. |

i prefer the 5.45 calibre. the sar-2 has less recoil than a 20" ar-15! it shoots fast and flat, so learning new holdovers isn't all that tough. accuracy is better than 7.62x39 and not quite as good as .223. 5.45 ammunition runs about $10 per thousand rounds more than 7.62x39 in my area, and about $10 less than russian .223. |
