So I walk into one of the local gunshiops I frequent and lying on the counter is a SAR-1. They're in the process of putting a tag on it, having just taken it in trade.

It looks pretty good, 1999 vintage, sights are straight, finish is very nice, good wood.

Dealer says "It's pretty much unfired." I say "Mind if I strip it?"

After a quick breakdown it is obvious that it had been fired quite a bit as the receiver and gas pasiton are filthy. Bore is bright and clean though, and a quick dip a bottle of Hoppes cleans off the piston.

"Anything else come with  it?"

The dealer pulls out a 40-round mag and three Bulgarian waffle mags..

$250 out the door.

Now what am I going to do with another SAR-1?  It's a disease I tell you, a disease!

What to do with it?

I have an idea.  There is a guy on here just now asking about the K-var Bullpup config.  Why don't you buy that thing and make a bullpup SAR.

I know the bullpup is ugly as hell, but I don't think it does any permanent damage to the rifle.  And it would be great to have some feedback on that setup.  IMHO a used SAR (especially one from 1999) would be the perfect rifle to try that kit out on.  Since you already have a couple standard AKs you might as well experiment some.

DO IT FOR TEAM BRO!!!!!1
