No such thing to my knowledge. Except maybe for ATF's list if their's is even complete. Any of the Polytech Legends are preban. Norinco AK-47s with evil features are preban. If MAK90 or 91 or NHM-91 is postban and will have bayo lug milled off. Hungarian prebans are marked KASSNAR, IIRC and the postbans marked KFI if I remember Campybob correctly. SAR's are all postban. Any US manufacture AK's are postban to my knowledge. Russian AK's are all machineguns and are very scarce. I don't think there are any preban Polish or German AK's in the US. If there are they would be very scarce. MAADI's are Egyptian and there are some prebans, IIRC. But not alot. They are supposed to be very close copies of the Russian version. Can't tell you which are preban, though. Someone can correct me on some of the details, of course. The picture is not nearly so clear with AK's as is with AR-15's. |

Well, to my knowledge there is no such beast. Possibly the BATF might have something in writing. When the Bush 41 ban came thru all guns that were intransit were marked "MAK90", Sporter, etc and also neutered. Lately many of these guns are showing up and being sold as prebans. My brother and I say one not too long ago for $1,400! What are you looking at? |
| Saw a Egyptian MAADI today with the milled receiver.Shop owner said it was a PreBan.As far as I can remember it had MAADI close to the rear sight and MISER S/A on the Receiver or vice versa. Also had Sportster on it and Imported By?????Serial Number range is CM171xx.Its not a thumbhole stocked rifle. It has wood furniture set and plastic pistol grip.Man its as ruff as a cob.Looks like it was used in a torture test to see if Id fire after being drug 30 miles behind a truck but if its a PreBan Id consider buying it and having it redone.Price would be real right at $350.00.I think I could get it allitle cheaper as this guys Bread and Butter is Remington rifles and shotguns.Hes told me he would like to get rid of it because he has had it too long.I can remember it being the for atleast 2 years.Well what do you guys think?Post or Pre? |

It is post ban. There is no question about it. That is a post ban rifle. Its worth about $300. Its probably imported by CIA (century international arms). The thing that really sucks about those is that it requires you to use modified mags with American parts in them (either that or swap the furniture out for a USA made kit). By the way, are you sure it has a milled receiver? I'd double check that if I was you, cause I thought they were all stamped. -SS |
| After looking at my SAR it was a Stamped Receiver.Just trying to figure out the Pre/Post AK thing.Looks like its gonna be a little harder than Checking the status on ARs.Now what about MAK 90s?Anything to look for on them? Are they all post?Wish they had the search feature going.I could find a bunch of this info on my own.Thanks,45B10 |
Mak-90's are ALL postban. ALL of them. The MAADI's are very rough. But they are AK's so big deal. I've never been able to bring myself to buy one, though. Some people seem to like them alot. What preban features do you want? If just a pistol grip then any postban can be made legal with the appropriate number of US made parts. If you are certain about wanting a preban you're pretty much stuck with the Hungarian AK's marked Kassnar(not KFI) or a preban chicom. The Norinco AK's say AK-47 on them(MAK-90 was post '89 ban and hence the nomenclature) and will have a bayo lug and some with a folding stock. Polytech Legends mostly came through Keng's in Atlanta and will say that or KFS, Atlanta, GA(where Keng's is). They often will have "Polytech" and "386" on them(designate factory where made). Alot of so-called Legends oout there but if you've seen many AK's its not hard to spot the fakes. If you are firmly looking for a preban visit: www.sturmgewehr.com www.subguns.com www.gunsamerica.com There are others |
