Hey yall, I have a WASR-10, im upgrading all the furniture and i was wonderin about the legal ramifications of adding anything to the muzzle. It currently just has a nut and I was wondering what if anything i can attach, permanantly or other wise, to the end of the barrel and still keep it legal, as it is a post ban rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanx

lo-cap or hi-cap was 10?

a lo-cap model can accept any legal brake (not a flash suppressor). if the muzzle is threaded, the brake must be welded, blind pinned or soldered in place, according to some authorities. others, claim since the lo-cap is not an assault weapon by definition, the threaded bbl. is not in need of permenant attachment of the muzzle device.

a hi-cap model can use any legal brake, also. but, if a brake is used your usa parts count must be balanced to end up with 6 usa parts.

the attachment procedure requires permenant attachment of any threaded muzzle device with the exception of the romanian 22mm x 1.5mm threaded ak-74 brake, which may be installed without welding, pinning or soldering.

also what are the specifics behind the parts counts, i mean whats the limit of parts of each origin, i would assume that the more american parts the better, but ive been known to be wrong before,
thanx again

No more than 10 imported parts, by BATF def of 'part'. 30 US parts don't mean shit if you have 11 furrin parts. Get a US brake and attach permanently as Campy noted.

if anyone could give me any specific brands makes or styles of brakes that would considered legal for it that would help me even more. im replacing alot of stuff with american parts so thats not an issue, i just dont want some gov guy grabbin my weapon and saying "hey that specific thing can`t be on here. hope i dont look like an idiot, ive just had some trouble in this arena before (with something someone sold me) and am deathly afraid ta get in trouble again .
thanx again

any ak-74 style muzzle attachment is legally considered a brake...even though russian catalogs describe it as a "flame extinguisher". go figure.

any slant compensator is legal. this is the angle cut device adopted in 1959 on the russian akm.

consider anything with a cone to be illegal, as cones are considered flash suppressing elements.

birdcage looking devices are also a no-no.

LOL
Sort of like the USMC M16 Tech Manual saying the A2 Compensator. But the ATF calls it a Flash Hider?
