I'm new to the AK board here. What's the "Campyclone" I hear mentioned here so much? I really like the look of the Krebs M3 (especially with the green furniture), but I just can't see paying a grand for an AK. What doyou think of the Romanian SAR-2(I thinkit's the 2, the one in 5.45x39)? Thanks man, Rich |

once upon a time...back in 1999...i built that sar-2 into an ak-74 clone. and guys on a board that was once a popular ak site (before it became infested with morons and run by liars) started calling this style of rifle a campyclone. although i was certainly not the first person to build an ak-74 clone, i may have been the first to popularize doing so. you start with an sar-2, cur-2, wum-2 or romak-2 5.45 kalashnikov and add the correct romanian military threaded front sight base and ak-74 brake. this mod runs roughly $100 and all the parts came from k-var. trade out the furniture for k-var's black bulgarian furniture. this excellent quality, lightweight set runs $80. today, you also have the option of using k-var's american made copy of the bulgarian furniture..in both black and olive drab. next, i fitted a russian novosibirsk made pso-1 scope. this takes advantage of the ak-74's low recoil to extract the added accuracy of the 5.45 round...it also helps old eyes, like mine! install the redstararms fire control group to make it shoot even better and slap in a black bulgarian polymer mag for the total package. not only is it a good looking setup, it shoots better than she looks. |
