Looking for an underfolder in 7.62x39 in the 600-800 price range.
N-PAP DF? High Standard? Blackheart? Any others? Valued opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks. |

It was not an underfolder, but I owned an Interarms/Highstandard AK47 for a while; pretty sloppy construction, fit and finish in my opinion. Can't say I could recommend it. I ended up trading the one I had for an AR15 at a gun store. I've read good things about the N-PAP. Good luck |

If retro is your thing, I've been very pleased with my Romanian "battlefield pickup" from Atlantic. So does it shoot as well as it looks? |

I generally prefer imported AK rifles over commercially built domestics so NPap DF underfolder would be my first choice.
The previously mentioned Century AK63DS has not been out long enough for reports, good or back to surface, but their AK63DM milled receiver underfolder model has been out since 2014 with good reviews and their Yugo M70ABM milled receiver underfolder has only had one bad report that I've seen and was due to improperly installed bullet guide. These are all farmed out kit-builds by Century, not built in-house. |

May not be your cup of tea, but Classic has DDI underfolders on sale: https://www.classicfirearms.com/ak47-fixed-poly-stock-forged-ddi-ddi474150mbpuf (only 4 left when I posted this)

Thanks to all for your opinions and recommendations. After further research I have decided to go with the AK63DS.
After looking at other forums and online reviews I found that there were actually more positive reviews and less issues with the AK63DS as opposed to the N-PAP DF. Hopefully I have the same experience. I also want an underfolder that matches the AKMS profile and the Yugo style does not do that for me. Different handguards and dimensions. Also the price was too good to pass up! ![]()
Thanks again! |
Getting it from Classic? I saw those and was like at the low price.
https://www.classicfirearms.com/century-ak63ds-7-62-ak-underfolder $490 right now seems like a good deal. Only thing that seems a little off is chrome-moly barrel with no mention of treatment (nitride/chrome/etc.). |

I have not heard they are junk and actually found people saying otherwise on forums and youtube reviews. Some said this was their favorite AK. I found more negatives on N-PAP DFs with a lot having canted rear sights as well as front sights. Also mentioned was a weak receiver. All this from a Combloc factory. I think there are shady builds everywhere and do not believe for a minute that because it is built in any former Warsaw Pact country that it is a better AK. Which seems to be the mainstream consensus around here. Remember that after the wall fell corruption was ramped in the former Soviet Union. |

Yes! To think these rifles were selling for $700 before from what I read. Yeah chrome moly 4140 barrel. Not nitride or chrome lined as I understand it. But still good enough for me. I would imagine still in the 15,000 or better round count. Not firing tracers or mag dumping. According to another forum this barrel is only .1% difference between 4140 and 4150 and of course Validium(sp). But, as long as you don't heat the barrel up, it should be fine. |

NPAP DF or, if you can find one, a WASR under folder. I also do not like the Yugo look. Handguards and other items are not interchangeable with typical AKM furniture and the length is actually about 2 inches longer IIRC. With the AK63DS I can switch out parts with my other AKM. Some times you have to think about commonality with your arsenal. That is one reason I didn't get a 5.45x39 to add to my collection. Thank you for your recommendation. |
