| Reputable AK-familiar gunsmith? Nobody locally is taking work and the people I've contacted via their websites either don't get back or aren't taking work. This has pretty much been my life story with gunsmiths. So, who can I turn to? All I really want is somebody to remove my FSB and put my MAK90 one on. If I had a hydraulic press I'd do it myself but I don't, sooo... |
|
If your not doing the gas block (if you think the FSB is tight...), do it yourself. you don't need a press. The first one I did was using a heavier framing hammer (mini sledge works better), block of wood, holding the rifle on my lap. It was a royal PITA but it worked. Add a decent heavy duty work bench with good options of securing the rifle and it becomes much easier. If when your putting it back on it gets canted a BFPPW (big effin padded pipe-wrench) fixes that.
If you can't find a Smith, you just gotta do it yo'self |

Practical Readiness This guy does awesome work. I think he's just got a few kits he's doing currently, so I have no idea about backlog. He told me he'd swap my gas block and FSB while I wait... |

This guy is VERY good. And he always responded to my emails. He is one of the best in the country. Also, it took him about 3 months to finish my build. |

I also highly recommend ARS. Mark is amazing and is very active on several gun forums under the name gun plumber. He has done work on an AK and FAL of mine. |
| Matt Yeamans (turbothis on AKFiles) does great work, has plenty of good feedback on AKFiles forum. here's his website http://mygunsnorthwest.com/ |

| Jim Fuller is usually behind by at least a couple months but I have yet to see work that rivals his. I thought it was all marketing BS until I actually handled an AK with the weight taken off the front of it, really makes it a smooth gun, the action work over at RD is also fantastic but I feel like anyone could do it. The front end work? not so much. Check into it though. |

I can't imagine how much weight there is to lose; it's not a heavy rifle by any stretch. |

Mario at Piece of History and Troy Sellars of InRange. I trust both of them and they know the AK like nobodies business and have done amazing work. I've been on the hunt for months now. Mario was my go to guy but he has vanished off the face of the earth, and Troy only recently started accepting work again because of the DDI thing |

That's great to hear though; he's a hell of a good dude and I was really down when I heard he was stopping ops. The world needs more of his work out there. |

I'm sure in your mind that sounded constructive but I can assure you it's not. There's a nice place on the internet called /k/ you might want to go back to. |

I am very close to locking this thread. I suggest you stay on topic. So lock it? I already found somebody to do the job the rest was just somebody starting drama and me making a post-drama comment based on the absurd things that happen on the internet. I don't get the big deal. |
