| I don't have an AK. Keep telling myself I need one. Local shop has the SLR104 with the triangle stock new for a grand. I like 5.45 and looking online it doesn't seem like you can get them that cheap. FO? |

FO? AKOU on YouTube has a review ongoing with one. Looks like a great option for a 5.45 I think I will wait to see if the ammo options open up before I buy one in that caliber. |
| Definitely fo. There's just as much 5.45 ammo choices, they're just not found in Walmart like you can 7.62. Buy online, which is cheaper anyway, and start a little stockpile of ammo. Sure, the days of 7n6 are gone for the foreseeable future, but I don't even shoot my 7n6 stash even though I have over 10,000 rounds of it. |

It's used. The triangle stocked ones seem to be out of stock everywhere. The regular folding stock ones are easy to find though. |

Bought mine from atlantic, maybe call him and find out when there gonna get more. Its more money but you could just buy the poly stock and then buy a trianlge and swap. I think its a simple swap. Someone else would know, mine is a triangle so ive not tried to swap.
I dont buy used alot either but if the one at the gun store doesnt show much wear , or none at all it may be a good deal. Dont forget to haggle. ;). Just check for rust, incase someone shot surplus and didnt clean it :( |

^^^^ I like the idea of the VEPR for 7.62. But AK's feel front heavy to me as is. Seems overkill for 5.45. That's why I like the idea of the 104 for 5.45.
I was handling a Sam7 today and it's amazing how much heavier it feels after picking up a normal government profile barrel AR. What are the best mags? I don't care about price. Quality over quantity imo. I wish Magpul made 74 mags with the metal inserts. |

Izhmash true blacks have made it over here and guys are selling them on other boards for 35-45$ bucks each
Bulgarian circle 10 and circle 21 mags are still technically the gold standard, and were supposed to be the rage according to the Suarez crowd a few years ago. I always stuck with Russian and DDR bakelite, and plum Izzys, but would have used Bulgarians if the Russian stuff wasn't so common and relatively cheap. In my Russian guns the Bulgarian mags are usually a tight fit and I actually find mag changes harder with them |

The triangles are everywhere now and cheap too The SLR104 is an early 80's pattern AKS74 basically the same as the early Russian guns. It's a fantastic rifle and IMO it's the best 5.45 gun you can buy, edging out the SGL series by being smoother and better fit out of the box. Not quite as nice a Vepr but hten again I don't think any one builds them better than Molot, plus the SLR doesn't have any of the commonality issues that Veprs do. You can swap between black poly, plum and laminate all day long and get as tacticool as you want http://zenphotos.net/zenphotos/file/Online/SVD/slr105a1/SLR105LamNSPULeft.JPG http://zenphotos.net/zenPhotos/File/Online/SVD/tactical/SLR104_Ultimak_T1_G2_Left01.JPG http://zenphotos.net/ZenPhotos/File/Online/svd/1988izzy/1PN58_1988IzzyAKS74_Left.JPGZ Listen to this man, for he knows what he speaks. |

If you want an AK in 5.45, that's the one to get. I just recently bought one and it's fantastic. I bought it as soon as I saw the election outcome, I believe we will be seeing Russian imports again in spam cans of all sorts. Even if we don't, 5.45 is actually really available right now, just because walmart doesn't carry it doesn't mean there is a shortage. Don't be afraid to buy one. |

Buy it. I got a SLR104 for my first AK and no regrets. Thing was dead nuts at 100 meters out of the box. No adjustments. Now it looks like this. I love the 80's Afghan war look. https://s30.postimg.org/t97l4wun5/2017_01_01_19_46_34.jpg |

Agree with Zen.
The SLR-104 is THE AK-74 to get. I previously had two SGL-31s (31-61 and 31-94) and while I really liked them, once I got my SLR-104 I realized right out of the box the difference. Compared to the SGLs I had, the 104 has a noticeably better fit and finish. Plus, it comes stock with the pistol grip reinforcement plate - something the SGLs I had didn't come with. |

Dont pass it up just because its new.
A lot of people will buy guns just because, then never touch them again and sell them later. Ive seen it 1000 times. For all you know that gun has never even been fired. Even if it has been, that doesnt mean theres something wrong with it. You dont need to be an expert to look over a gun and get an idea of wear on it. Id go check it out in person and see what it looks like inside/down the barrel before passing it up. You might be missing out on a good deal. |
