Hello all,

I have a recent purchase Arsenal SAM-7SF that I want to do some modifications on. Its a great rifle!

I have studied through the forums and already added an Ultimak gas tube rail and an Aimpoint H1 Micro. I intend to wrap the stock with parachord to mitigate the effects of heat/cold on the old cheek skin.

My questions are regarding the sling and the handguards. Will the rear sling swivel support a single point sling by itself? If it will, what is a good single point sling to use at this location?

In recent shooting experience with the SAM7 as it is, I love the Ultimak/H 1 setup but the Ultimak gets stupid hot and burns my fingertips. I don't want to always wear gloves or use a magazine hold - I want to address the problem.

I think I am going to the Magpul handguard which covers the sides of the Ultimak. However, I am apprehensive about cutting the front handguard mount off of a $1,400 rifle. Will the shorter AKM version fit the milled receiver with some modification or should I just go for it, cut the front handguard off, and use the longer MOE version?

It's a great rifle. I bought one upon its initial release and still consider it one of my favorite rifles.
Good choice running a red dot site, however, I would go the RS Regulate route with forward bias mount over the Ultimak route. Too much weight up front increases fatigue.
Yes the rear sling loop will work with a 1-pt sling.
Wrapping the cheek bar in 550 para cord id a good idea. I had to for shooting in cold weather. It burns without it.
Go with what you like for a handguard, but I would run the factory handguard for a while before swapping it. It's good.

Attero arms mount are my go to set up topped with a H-1 or PA micro.  I agree with the hand guard unless your thinking of wood?  1 point sling is your easiest option unless you go with a hand guard with a second mounting point for a two point.
