Would a Arsenal 7.62×39mm bolt & carrier work in this rifle? I would of course check the headspace.

I picked up my first AK, a RAS47. I know, it's probably a lemon... I didn't do enough research before I ordered it. Took it to the range today and love this rifle, it grew on me already and don't want sell it. Since the bolt and carrier in this rifle might not be good enough (soft metal and/or flawed heat treatment). That's why I'd like to have an spare bolt and carrier on hand.

As long as it's not a Russian SGL series bolt or carrier.

I don't think you will have a problem. It's a good rifle. Tactical response has had good things to say about it.

Yeah, you will have guys say, it's junk , it won't last 80,000 rounds. Well, who in the hell is going to do that ? The Wasr 10 gets a lot of praise, but I just bought one, and let me tell you, the eye test is pretty bad. Rough finish and nothing is square or straight. Yet guys bash Century for making their rifle strait and square ???

Enjoy the gun and shoot the hell out of it. I also love my V2 !

That's good to hear Maxbob. I fired 140 rounds today. The sight only needed minor adjustments at 25 yards with the rear sight set at 300yards. I love this rifle so far.

You make this claim based on what?

Tactical Response (James Yeager) is affiliated with Century, so no surprise there.

Actually, they seem to not last 5,000 rounds:

Yep, and that's been known about WASRs since they've been in existence. They get praise because they're a rugged military built rifle using properly heat treated steel that won't lead to you failing headspace within 5,000 rounds (see video above) for a reasonable price.

Not a single person has bashed Century because their rifles are "straight and square".

Not sure what you mean by that. I'm not a lawyer and have never claimed to be.

Everything AEnemaBay said plus just changing the soft cast bolt and carrier is NOT going to fix all the RAS47's issues. Both of its trunnions are also soft cast and those aren't going to be easy fixes.

702Wolfi,

Despite everything we posted, if you like your RAS then you should use the hell out of it. I would just strongly recommend picking up a no-go gauge and checking the headspace after you've cleaned it. Because we can all argue that the RAS is crap or that it's great, but ultimately it's your hands and face sitting behind that rifle, and you're the one risking a catastrophic failure (based on evidence of their heat treatment). Will it ever loose headspace? Probably not, and more than likely it'll be fine for the entire time that you own it. But wandering headspace is not something I would brush off as "hater talk" like the IO guys like to call it.

I appreciate all the info guys! I screwed up big time buying this gun. Some of these RAS47 seem to wear ~10 times fast than a good AK. Not sure how to proceed from here. Need to let it soak in for a couple of days.

Eh, you could have bought an IO and done worse.

I would just shoot it and keep an eye on headspace. IF it does get to the point that it fails you can sell it as a gunsmith special (being completely honest about its condition, of course) and I can almost guarantee that you'll sell it.

This is true but when Robski is posting video's about RAS47s that have headspace failing after a few thousand rounds it's not a good idea to throw caution to wind and act like nothing is happening. He doesn't BS around so it might be wise to watch the video and see what he says

I quit watching after the spetsnutz push up portion of the video.  It passed that scientific thread with flying colors so no need to watch anymore right.  I'm gonna go watch the scientific Chevy vs ford truck bed strength video now cause that is real science??

The man says don't take his word for it, check the head space yourself if you have one. Don't need to be an expert to follow some simple advice that could prevent a kaboom, but whatever floats your boat is fine by me.

Wow what a burn. I'd take RobSki's word any day. His videos are to help improve quality from substandard ak products pushed out there. I remember an M4 website was out and helped alot of people make good decisions on what was milspec in the AR market... it saved alot of people from buying junk. In the end it forced companies to bring quality control up and to use milspec parts when manufacturing.

Attorney. Asshole. Same/same.

No offense intended to any attorneys among us.  In fact, to hear my inlaws tell it, I am such an asshole, I should have been an attorney.  Sad to know I missed my calling in life.

Haha, yeah. My best friend is an attorney in California (where I'm from originally) and he always says I should drop out of medicine and become a lawyer.

the push ups are a gimmick.

shooting 5,000 rounds through the rifle and having it shoot itself to death? not a gimmick.

I actually really like the C93 and RAS rifles on the surface, they have the potential to be great quality US-made AKs once a couple of these key issues are resolved.

However it does no service to the owners of these guns in their current state of offering to simply act like these issues do not exist, or shoot down anyone who tries to convey this information. Please knock it off.

Agree. The RAS47 has a lot going right and could have possibly been the best AK ever but they went cheap where it really counts. The barrel, nitriding of all metal parts, Wolff springs, RAK-1 trigger, fit and finish are all excellent. Just the soft cast parts are crap.

Be sure you watch Rob Ski's 5000-round video above all the way through.  The title of his video says the rifle died after 5000 rounds, then he shows that it didn't die and keeps shooting it, but then he shows at the very end that it closes on a no-go gauge and "is a grenade."  So it did die (or at least I would consider it dead).  If you only watched like 5 or 6 minutes, you would think it was just wear and crappy sights and furniture he was griping about.

Be sure you keep watching to just after that where Rob shows the kaboom rifle aftermath pictures and hear his advice on not to listen to him or experts on the internet... buy your own go and no-go gauges if you have one of these rifles.  At the end of his video he shows his own RAS47 closing on a no-go gauge.  That's scary stuff.

I bet he's not on Century's Christmas card list anymore.
