this. It really depends on what country or manufacturer barrel used. It also depends on if your rifle has the 45 degree or 90 degree gas block. For instance, the Bulgarian 104/105 FSB is a direct replacement on an SLR 105/107 rifle, but would not be on a WASR. If it has a 45 degree gas block, it requires a new gas port drilled and the old one filled.

Hope that helps some.

It's a Romania made WASR-10 with a standard gas block (assuming a 45 degree).

Not gonna work easily, the venom is by far your easiest option.
I think the Draco/m10 style gas block might work but I can't remember if it's a 45 degree or not.

Damn... I was really wanting to use a 4pc flash hider with the FS/GB combo. Looks sweet IMO!

Any info on the new hole location / recommendations on filling the old one?

You can mix 90 degree and 45 degree ports without having to weld up the old port since gas is fluid. The biggest issues that you'll run into is that the final position of the gas block on the barrel may be closer/further than it would be normally. If the final position is closer towards the RSB this can be fixed by trimming the gas tube. If it's further then you'll have a bit more work to do with lengthening the gas tube. I haven't ran into an issue were the gas block was so far forward that it required a re-pinned/longer gas piston.

Are you planning on doing the work yourself or having it done?  I think that is something to consider.  I've got an AK105 (bulgarian combo block) waiting on a stamp to come back (then chop) and another Saiga AK74 with the Venom - both 90 gas ports.  I had to get the AK105 combo done by a smith because the barrel was just thick enough and the block just tight enough to require some fitment.

The Venom gas block is a bolt on, red locktite and some torque - done.  It does have a guide for a pin hole to be drilled, I believe - that's how Rifle Dynamics install them at least.  I'd recommend the Venom.

You have a lot of options though - I looked into them as well.  None of these give the entire story of the install, I recommend you research them before committing.

JMAC Customs makes very good quality parts and they have a combo block - requires a gas journal to be cut.

the V-Projrct block is Polish made and cheap - but very difficult to install - lots of modification it sounds

YOu can cut off the site block and weld it to the gas block - looks pretty good when done right.  when not...

You can just make it an ak103k - push your existing site back and then thread, blind pin weld for 16.1" overall and not have to worry about the stamp cost.  You can get an AK-74 type sight to avoid threading.

I'm in the Austin area and know a gunsmith that is a good guy.  Class 3 Machining (on arfcom as DallasShootingSupplies) can thread an AK barrel fast, cheap, concentric to bore and does it without removing the barrel from the receiver.

I plan on doing the work myself. I'm a hobby gunsmith, but AK custom work this involved is new ground for me. But my theory is, I can't learn it if I don't do it! Lol

Cool, sounds like fun.

JMAC posted that only a small journal would be needed for use of his combo block with a 45 gas port.  Earlier in the thread he implies that getting the bulgy CR type block (ak-142b) to work is easy, I wonder if it is the same way?  I thought the journal would need to be put in the block, but I'm talking beyond my own experience now.

I'm the same way.

I learned a lot building my AK's with a mentor.

Don't know if you have found this forum, so here is a link, http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_4/51_.html

where in TX are you? The hometown forum may be a good place to start if you need any tools or help. I'm in Houston and have done this before, but with a 90 degree gas block barrel.

Mexia (Central Tx) is where I'm at. I'll check in Hometown, thanks

Thanks for all the info y'all, much appreciated. It give's me a direction to go at least. I haven't bought any of the parts yet, but it looks like I need to at least get the FS/GB combo and gas tube rail that I'm wanting first. This way I can get the nitty gritty part taken care of. Everything else I've got planned for the build is in my wheel house or self explanatory! lol

I assume you've considered just sbr'ing a Draco instead? Might be less headache.

that's definitely the easiest route to go, but it sounds like OP wants the specific Bulgarian/Russian style combo block with 24mm integrated threads

if not, and 14mm threads are OK, this is probably the easiest suggestion.. but at least there are blocks out there now that are readily available from V-Project

Correct, I'm wanting to use the 24mm threads on my current rifle.

Ok, so I've been doing a LITTLE research on my project thoughts. I'm leaning towards the venom after all. My question now is, if I use  crush washer to hold tension on the muzzle device, will the 1mm collar threads be enough to hold, or will the washer slip over it? (14mm threads on a barrel that 15mm at the front of the current gas block)?

Thanks!
