| Looking to get an AK here in the next 30-60 days. Done a lot of research over the months and wanted to use this forum as my final stop to get others thoughts on a good AK. Any info is appreciated. 7.62x39, fixed or side folder stock, side rail, wood or synthetic |

I'll let the veteran posters respond but a search on this site really does wonders (not being a jerk). I've been a huge lurker for a few years, but I have also learnt more by searching and reading on this site and akfiles then anywhere else. It's such a subjective question about the "best" or "best for the money". The best thing going for you is there's a lot of options. Maybe list some more details like price range, Euro or USA made, caliber, etc. and you'll be on your way to getting something you will like. Good luck.
My AK purchases I've made and been very happy with include WASR (older batch from a few years ago), SGL21 and SAR-1. All great rifles for what I paid for. The SAR-1 just has a special place in my heart (first AK I bought back in the ban days). |

Arsenal is always held in high regard along with Atlantic builds, DDI, and other similar priced guns. The best bang for your buck gun right now would be the Yugo Pap (O-Pap, N-pap) and the WASR.
I recommend Atlantic Firearms if you are considering a mail order purchase. Those guys are top notch and always have excellent customer service. |

You need to determine
Why are you buying the gun ? What will you use it for ? What features do you need ? What is your budget ? A Military or Police Tactical team must first Define the mission before they can choose the weapons they need , You need to do the same. |

Seems just about everyone is out of stock. Thanks! |
| it's hard to bet the value of the new WASR, for what you would have into an slr107 you could have a wasr with a few nice add ons or a bunch of ammo. I don't know if it's the end of O-PAPs but they are very hard to find right now and if you do find them people want stupid money for them. I don't have a wasr myself but if I miss out on the next shipment of DAKM 4150s I am going to buy a wasr. I would rather have the DAKM but at the same time for the same money I can have a wasr with a primary arms 4X scope and an alg akt trigger or a wasr with almost 2000 round of ammo. |

This +1000 It's a real renaissance in AK's these days, hard to buy a bad one anymore, just stay away from IO and you'll be fine. |
| At this time you pay for what you get lots of junk out there. Lower cost has more potential for trouble but many have good luck with them. I suggest picking up a SLR-107 for about $950 if over your budget pick up a WASR and take your chances. If you pick up a WASR I suggest you order a case of ammo ahead of time and run 500rds threw it to find any problems. Atlantic Firearms took care of me after having problems with a WASR I had. |
