I am new to the AK world, and just bought a WASR 10 and of course I want to try and put a suppressor on it. I've noticed the barrel has a thread protector spot welded on, which is no problem for me to remove.
My question is when I get a thread adapter from 14x1 LH to 5/8x24 to accommodate my QD muzzle brake, do I need peel washer/shims on both the muzzle and adapter? Suppressor will be either a Saker or Omega utilizing an ASR mount. I have heard of issues on the threads not being concentric for AK's and obviously do not want a baffle strike. TYIA! |

so torqueing down the adapter with Loctite on the threads then using shims to time the brake should make everything kosher when shooting suppressed?
I have heard they don't, but I have the means and capability to do so, and I will. Plus if it is ever used for hunting it is suppressor ready. |
| That is what I did. I used loctite on the muzzle threads (between muzzle and adapter) and then used shims and a DPMS .308 A2 Flash hider. If you use an A1 (.308) flash hider or a Vortex flash hider, it will tighten with each shot and you won't have to use shims. |
| Just had the pleasure to shoot an AK suppressed recently and it was actually allot of fun and worked better then most people on the internet will tell you. I have a 104ur I am going to buy the thread adapter for and use my specwar on once my form1 comes back! Just check for concentricity and have fun. |

Do AKs not suppress well because they are still loud, or for some other reason? I have a Specwar 7.62 in jail and have been considering a WASR and like the OP, of course I want to suppress it. AK's are already over-gassed, and suppressors exacerbate that. They also aren't well-sealed, and a lot of the gasses escape. Most have vents in the gas tube, even. Suppressors work by trapping and slowing the escaping gasses to make the firearm's retort quieter. It's like putting a drain filter on the end of a bottle with a dozen pinprick holes in the sides. They still suppress quite well, but not as well as other designs. |
