I need to remove this upper handguard so I can get it refinished. I've already done it on my AK74, now I want to do it for my Polish Underfolder. But, there Polish Underfolder has a part on the gas tube that my Bulgarian AK74 gas tube did not. Which appear to be retaining clips. I've tried twisting hard and it's not moving, and now I'm at the point where If I twist hardly I may end up breaking the wood handguard.

So what do I gotta do to get this fucking thing off?

Lock down open end of gas tube in a secure device and then grab and rotate the handguard. It should rotate and at the 180 deg position slip away from the gas tube.

I believe you still have to rotate like your AK74

Are you just twisting by using your hands or are you using a wrench?  If you're not using a wrench, then use one.  All of my upper handguards, especially if they have the retaining clip, are tight enough to need a wrench.

I just attached the wrench to the flats on the part of the gas tube that touches the RSB and twist off the handguard.  It provides enough leverage to get it moving.

Yes, it will rotate off.  The retainer clip will rotate with the handguard.

I sometimes resort to a vice for the gas tube flats and a strap wrench on the HG.

The "clips" don't hold it in place, it is more of a leaf spring that keeps it tight on the gas tube.  It will rotate with the handguard once you get enough torque on it to get it moving.

Yep, some are so tight that the only way to hold it in place and get enough muscle on it is to use a vice.  It can be a huge pain in the ass.

How I do it.

Sometimes I can do it by just gripping the tube with one hand and twisting the HG out with the other if it's a loose fitting one.

It rotates 180 degrees like other handguards. Those clips you're pointing to are not holding it.

I've ruined a handguard before, it happens.

This is what you're pointing at:

If you squeeze the hand guard towards the tube while twisting it will compress the anti rattle spring some and that helps a bunch.
I have never had to use a wrench of any sort to remove an AK hand guard.

try some liquid soap to lube it up. No wrench should be necessary.
