Just recently got back into the AK game, this being my 3rd (all 3 have been WASRs). This most recent already had the MagPul Zhukov handguard, but I decided to order the ultimak rail for red dot purposes.

Found one and purchased off the EE, only to realize that my gas tube is vented. I've got a IM into the seller to find out if it is vented, but if it isn't can it still be used?

Either way, I'm keeping cause I'm already working on another AK. Finally got to where I want to keep them and practice as opposed to shoot cans all day with them

the vent holes are aesthetic. if you like the way they look use it.

Will work regardless, i think they look cooler too and if you do some scuba diving the water will drain from the gas tube

When you install it follow the video below and it will be a lot easier the first time getting it level and mounted correctly

I like the vent holes on the Ultimak.

However, with my Zhukov'd AK I went with the non-vented version. The vent holes are pretty much covered by the handguard anyway. Most of the gas will dump into it. Also, now that you have more handguard to grab onto you might try to put your thumb in front of them for a more comfortable grip.

I offered a trade in that same ad you got the Ultimak in OP, and the link the seller provided linked to the vented version, so you are good to go. Vent holes only matter if your GB doesn't have them already which most do these days, i'm sure your WASR does so you can use any tube you like.

Your gas tube is vented, or the Ultimak is vented? Either way it's immaterial - your WASR has a vented gas block so the vent holes on the gas tube are superfluous.

I think the Chinese ak's had the vented gas tubes, but either way it should work.
