I've had bad luck the last two times out with my PSL.  The firing pin seized up and wouldn't function.  For the second time in a row I found two round chunks in the firing pin channel.  You can see them in the photo below.

So today I removed the Firing Pin Retaining Pin to remove the Firing pin and replace it with the one I bought from Toth Tools.

http://www.tothtool.com/PSL-Firing-Pin_p_15.html

In the process of reassembly, I managed to bend the retaining pin for the firing pin and need a new one.

The diameters of the firing pins for the PSL and my AKM are the same.

Does anyone know if a standard AKM retaining pin for the firing pin will be usable in my PSL?

I appreciate the help!

BTW, before it broke, I had it dialed in at 25 yds (left target).

Looks like your fp hole in the bolt is cutting out your primers. If your new fp doesn't solve the problem you may want to bevel the hole edges slightly.

Not 100% sure on the retaining pin, but if you have an AKM too, see if it will fit.

Thanks for the input.  The two small discs are actually fragments from the end of the firing pin.  I bought a replacement firing pin about two+ years ago when I was having light primer strikes.  When I compared the the original to the new one, the original was about 1/8" longer than the replacement which meant when full protruding through the bolt face, the rear of the firing pin protruded from the rear of the bolt body.

Now the original and the new firing pins are the same size, leading me to understand that the rear of the original firing pin is shearing off.

The photo above shows the original (top) and the new (bottom) firing pin.  You can see the deformation on the original firing pin.

The two small discs look like primer fragments from pierced primers.

Did the debris in the FP channel show up with your replacement (Not the TOTH one, the short one)? If the Toth FP is too long I'd file that back so that it doesn't protrude from the rear of the bolt and see how she runs. You definitely don't want the FP to protrude in back when at  full forward travel. I'd also take a close look at the hammer-to-bolt interface -- make sure it hits square.

The pieces are from the back of the original firing pin.  Their size excludes them from being from a primer.  They have to have come from behind the bolt face.

Does anyone know if I can use a standard AKM retaining pin to keep the firing pin in place?

A pierced primer can force the pirce of primer back through the firing pin hole and get into the firing pin channel.  Happen on my old M76 pretty often.   Are the little pieces magnetic?  See if they stick to a magnet?

If it fits the application it should work fine.  They are a real tight fit.  Might be that you could find a roll pin and I think they are better anyway.  Trim to length.  You can also make gun pins from drill bits.

I'm trying to remember which rifle I found with primer bits in the firing pin channel.  It happens.
