I'm fed up stabbing myself with the bolt handle on my AK.  So I have been looking at getting an add on oversized model.

I see these on Amazon, but does anyone have an recommendations?

I would go with the Tromix charging handle. Bought one from carolinashootersupply.com  You can get it in textured or smooth style

I have the first one from amazon and with a little bit of loctite it has been a nice upgrade.

Let me tell you sonething. There is Tromix and then there is the other ones.

The Tromix on two of my guns fit great. CSS was OOS a couple of weeks ago so I got an Amazon one. Like one of the ones in those links.
Mobile it finally went on, it didn't fit right and even with fiddling it's still a tiny tiny but crooked.

Just buy the Tromix.

Stoop, could you take a photo of the handle from the top of the rifle? I'm curious how much further it sticks out compared to the stock setup.

I think I would buy one of these, but from all that I've seen... It really doesn't look to 'extend' the handle at all, maybe what, 1/16th of an inch? ... Meh...

Does that just attach with a set screw over the original handle?

Yes it does, very simple installation and it makes the gun way more comfortable to use.

One of these, a better pistol grip and a better sighting system, (I prefer aperture sights myself.) Are a must on any AK I own. Having a more comfortable charging handle is a world of difference.

When working on drills I was digging lumps out my hand with the original handle, took to using my PIG gloves whenever I run the rifle, but after a few practice sessions with the extended bolt I don't 'need' the gloves.

Heck I'll wear them anyway as there are other things like the cheesegrater picatinny rails on my ARs that chew up my hands but it is nice to run the AK bareback.

Definitely needs Loctite though, racking the bolt without loosened it up enough that it would fall off after 5 racks.

it extends in all dimensions, giving you more to grab.

No no no man. Don't pigeon hole it as just as an extender.

The stock handle is garbage compared to this IMO. I mean the tip on your finger can just hit the edge of this and it grabs.

It's one if the biggest upgrades an AK can get IMO

Be careful with these 'bolt on' Tromix and Etc handles- they will fly off at the range. Remember that an AK CH is reciprocating unlike the AR is.

I had to use a mill to make a flat section on my stock CH, plus use generous red loctite everywhere to keep mine on...but not it's not going anywhere.

I got the Zenit one.  I like it, they are a little pricey, but they are Russian.  So, to be expected.  It being round is the biggest improvement for me.  No matter if you are going over or under to charge the weapon, it is easier to hit.  AKOUL has the Zenit handles.
