I have a Romy G for several years now and I really love it. It's a real jewel. The build is beautiful. while talking with a guy last week he told me as far as he knows Romy G's did  not come in an underfolder. What is the story here? It won't break my heart if it is not correct but I just am wanting to know if these guns came in this configuration

Also how do I tell if this parts kit has the original barrel? the kit is a 1986 but of course you don't know when it was imported.

Thanks Jay

This might be helpful in identifying what you've got.

Take the gas tube off and look and thre barrel for arsenal stamps.  If it is US-made, it will be fairly obvious.

By the way, that finish is definitely not Romanian, so I am guessing it was built from a kit.  The barrel could still be Romanian though.

I remember when the G kits were everywhere. I'm pretty sure they were all fixed stocks with the black stripe.

I believe the Gs were all fixed stocks. I don't recall seeing anything about underfolders on Gs in The Grim Reaper.

Sorry someone made a franken romy. It's all good, you can always rebuild it with new receiver and fixed stock trunnion. The barrel looks original, but you need to take the hand guards off and see it has any stamps as someone else already posted .

The 'G' kits were all fixed stock, with the handguard that had a wood foregrip.  They all came with Romanian barrels.

This was back in the day were parts were cheap and plentiful.  The low cost of the G kits means people used them to get the basic parts to build stuff in all sorts of different configurations.

I left the black stripe on my stock when I refinished it.

Still have the original forend if I ever want to put it back on.

From Wikipedia:

Patriotic Guards version

The most-produced civilian export variation of this rifle is that of the 'Garda' designation, produced for the Romanian Patriotic Guards. These rifles have a letter 'G' engraved on the left side of the rear sight block. The civil guard versions are modified by the removal of the sear and the modification of the disconnector to be semi-automatic only. Tens of thousands of these have been imported into the United States and sold as 'parts kits' (the receiver is destroyed by torch-cutting per BATF regulations – without the receiver, the kit is no longer legally considered a firearm). They are colloquially known among firearms enthusiasts as "Romy G's".
