I never realized how canted the magazine is...this is driving my OCD through the roof I'm assuming they had to design it this way because of the reciprocating barrel?

Good God why is the mag canted like that? That looks like some shit Century would pull.

ETA: from the comments:

For the information of people, the magazine is tilted because the gun has an object which pushes the next round into the chamber upon the bolt carrier moving backwards, and as such the magazine is tilted to provide space for it. The AN94 is not as good as has been claimed in these comments, it has roughly the same single shot accuracy and stopping power as most other 5.45 and 5.56 firearms which are far less complicated. It also has an extremely complicated trigger group and several of it's parts are very awkward to handle.

The reciprocating front site would be a trip too.

I think he's referring to how it sits slanted on one side and rotates to put the various apertures up into position.

Sure looks like there's quite a bit of barrel whip and muzzle rise in that video, I thought it was supposed to function smoother.

The main selling point of the AN-94 was the 1000 rpm 2 shot burst.

Good God the Russians make some ugly ass guns.

Function over form, but that looks like scrap metal pounded together.

The "quality" of the machining and fitting really does look like that

And while I had heard and seem pictures before I don't think it actually struck me that the damn front sight reciprocates

The barrel action etc was known to me but I never realized the damn magazine was so far off center. Learn something new every day! Thanks for sharing!

The Lav had a FTE or feed in the video he posted when he was in Russia shooting their firearms, it was so bad it took 3 guys and a knife (I believe) to pry it out. He claimed it was because of the high round count the gun had, but him being in russia next to the people who gave him permission to shoot it makes me a bit skeptical.

The more info about the AN94 that comes out, the more I understand why it was never selected as a replacement.

It's essentially like a concept car - strange but still neat looking, interesting tech, but with some off-putting details that make it not 'marketable' or economical for general use.  The good thing is that the ideas that came out of this have transferred to other projects.
