looking to put an ak74 style brake on my Romanian, would you guys recommend going with the14-1LH to 24mm x 1.5mm thread adaptor and running the quality arsenal style 74 brake or just run the tapco 74 style brake and not use use the thread adaptor? I know you cant compare the two as far as quality goes.

Don't bother with the crapco version of the 74; it really only looks like a 74 style brake, it doesn't actually function like one. Be careful using an adapter, I just very recently had an issue involving one in which I suspect that the adapter was part of the reason that I was getting bullet strikes on my brake. You'd probably be better off using a brake that was designed for the 14x1 LH threads that you have. FYI- I purchased a Nightbrake from Manticore arms and they shipped it the same day that I ordered.

thanks for the info, I was kind of concerned about having to use an adaptor on the barrel. I was also looking at this one, ive heard its not a good idea to run on a standard length barrel though.

Well what do you want your attachment to do? That is a good one from what I understand, but it's a flash hider not a brake. If you're looking to reduce flash then I would go with that or the nightshroud.

Can anyone confirm that the krink flash hider is not harmful on a standard length barrel? I was under the impression that they were for sbr's to help with gassing.

That's a booster not a flash hider. It is designed to increase gas pressure in short barrel rifles. Increasing gas pressure in a 16 inch barrel is not something you want.

You'll find pics of guys using it.. But they are also military guys using weapons that they don't have to pay to maintain or replace.  One of the most respected AK builders said he's had to fix a customers rifle after that booster caused it to beat the hell out of itself.

this is leaving me with absolutely no options other than the tapco 74 style brake...... nothing seems to be in 14.1

I'm a big fan of the Primary Weapons Systems FSC-47, but it might be more than what you want to pay for a muzzle device.

Manticore Night Brake comes in 14x1 LH, Manticore also makes the Night Shroud in 14x1 LH if you were looking for a flash hider; probably the best muzzle device you can buy for $50 IMHO. They are at least as good as the $100 brakes out there.

If you really must have a '74 muzzle brake, you can replace your FSB for one with the 24mm threads attached.

The Manticore Nightbrake is a good option for 14x1 threads. I would also take a look at the Damage Industries muzzle brake. It appears to be a good option and it is not very expensive.

What's the issue with the Tapco AK break?  I ordered one - before this thread appeared - after not being able to find an AK74 style break in 14 x 1 configuration made by someone other than Tapco?

I run the manticore arms nightbrake on my Draco sbr, and I love the damned thing. It reduced recoil down to around .223 levels and muzzle rise was cut out almost completely, now it just has a small push to the right. It's also very compact, which was important to me on an sbr. I don't think you can beat it for the money, really. I'd encourage you to try it out, plus it looks cool.

No, I actually did read it, didn't understand what the issue with the break was and thus posted a follow up question.

You obviously have nothing of substance to add to what is supposed to be a technical forum.

If you can't add to the discussion, don't reply and spare us your snarky trolling.

Have a nice Easter, nonetheless.

There is nothing more to add about the Tapco brake.  It is just a brake that is designed to look like an AK74 brake, but the way it works is quite different.  If you just want the look, it's fine.

The biggest difference is that the Tapco lacks the large expansion chamber, and has less ports on it directing the muzzle down.

Hell, they don't even LOOK like '74 brakes to me. They always stand out like sore thumb on rifles.
