I wanted an option to have another color besides black or FDE as a pistol grip for my draco project.
I've decided on the magpul offering simply as I can store a scaled down form 1 in the grip once my stamp comes in. The original plan was to get an orange color, similar to a Polish pistol grip, I was convinced I had a bottle of sunshine orange at the house... and I did but it was pretty much empty So that left me with coco brown, wine, and black rit dye. Well I'm impatient, so I decided to do a brown grip to go with my dark brown dong hand guard set. I ordered a third grip so I can properly dye it orange. So, I'll have a color for every occasion. On to the pics - I used coco brown and a little wine as the dye formula.

Nice! good work keep us posted to how it wears. it penetrates the plastic so it won't wear off. you submerge the part in boiling water / dye which opens up the pores of the material. done a ton of pmags and have never seen an issue, you can cut into it and it penetrates pretty deep. |

Thank you sir! I was just thinking about this for some Pmags. |

I did a video on my channel for dying mags plum color. Turned out pretty nice. YouTube channel :sloppyjoe999s. Here you can see one of the US palm mags I made plum on my SAM7SF which has a plum lower guard. Nearly a perfect match. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d152/sloppyjoe1300/IMAG0297_zpsf10ac8ec.jpg Outstanding! |

Quoted: Unfortunately no. You can only go light to dark. Fde is the best base for dye. Quoted: Quoted: Did you dye a black grip brown? I have a magpul grip on the way. I didn't want black but it was a good deal... Unfortunately no. You can only go light to dark. Fde is the best base for dye. |

Quoted: If it's a tan one, I don't see why not. I'd try it first on a similar polymer. Are you going to be the first plum side folder? ![]() Quoted: Quoted: Anyone know about dying an Arsenal US made polymer AK100 series folding stock? I'm getting some ideas... Just curious as to how durable Rit Dye is on plastic? Does it wear off easily? That grip sure does look nice, but how long will it stay that way? It won't wear off like paint or a finish. The dye penetrates and stains the polymer when submerged in the boiling mixture. I have PMAGs that have seen a lot of abuse over the past 2 years and no "wearing off" is occuring |

you doing a dye and alcohol treatment, or just dye in boiling water? My process: 1.) Ensure Mrs. Finslayer is out of the house 2.) Get one of Mrs. Finslayer's nice pots, depending on what I'm doing, select appropriate size 3.) Fill up enough water to allow for item to be completely submerged 4.) Boil water 5,) When at a boil, add dye(s) 6.) Submerge item (while still at boil, heat is needed to keep polymer porous) 7.) Remove item ------- a.) check to see if dyed to desire, if not keep in longer or change dye mixture 8.) Rinse under cold water 9.) Clean up all evidence I was using Mrs. Finslayer's pots 10.) Profit. |

I just finished cleaning up the pot when she walked into the kitchen. "what are you doing" - just cleaning up from dinner "hmm, did you cook gun parts?" - I was just taking a picture of that in here, better lighting "I've got my eye on you"
