What would y'all recommend to replace a slant brake to reduce flash? I'm not needing a brake, and seeing as I have night sights on my AKMS, I'd like to be able to utilize them with a reduced fireball.

I've heard good things about the PKM Short. Does anybody here have one?

The Krebs does a great job; it's more expensive than the PKM short though.

The tapco bird cage flash hider (about $13) is surprisingly good.

I've got this Krebs birdcage, and it tames the flash from my 11.5" sbr quite well.

http://www.robertrtg.com/ak.html has several different types if you're looking for a particular style.

Manticore Arms Night Shroud or Smith Enterprise Vortex are both pretty good, YHM's Phantom is another one.
Go on youtube and search out reviews for the flash hider(s) you like best to see how they compare.

Red Jacket makes a good looking birdcage.

The tried and true Phantom has been a top performer for years, still is.

The Phantom would be my choice as well. They work well and I prefer closed prong flash hiders.

After watching some shooting in the dark comparisons (which I can't find) I got a bird cage.

In the tests i've seen, the real performers are the 4 piece brakes like the ones CNC Warrior sells, killed literally every bit of flash.

ETA: ugly as sin though, lol.

I like the rpk74/type 84 style myself, much smaller and lighter than a phantom and near as much flash reduction.

One of the Book of the AK-47 issues had an article on flashhiders if you have the issue you should check it out. The birdcage and SE vortex placed really well in their tests.

I went with the PKM Short.

I'll do what I can to try to get some video of it in use; I need to see if there are any members near me with a 120fps camera.

What about Surefire?

And of course, the SOCOM 762 Mini.

I was quite surprised at how well the Tapco AR type AK birdcage flash suppressor did when I did some night testing of some AK muzzle devices.

tire iron channel - AK muzzle devices - flash testing

I am generally not a huge Tapco fan - but this shows that you don't always need to spend a lot of dough to get a good performer.

Hope this helps,

cheers
