A member of Guns.ru posted these great pics of an amazing looking AKM with the classic "battlefield pickup" look.
More pics here.

| What defines a battlefield pickup? I had an AK in my room in Afghanistan that we confiscated from our local guards when their contract expired, plus about 6 or 7 steel mags. I wasn't interested in AKs and assault rifles in general at the time. I took it with me when I drove around the FOB looking for feral dogs. Wish I took the time to find out more about it. I got a pic of it somewhere. Will post if I find it. |

Dem spot welds. Spot welds? Serious question. The two "dots" above the dimple in the first post. The Russian factories often made large ugly marks when spot welding the rails to the receiver. It varied from receiver to receiver. US receivers often have very uniform and smooth welds. Its just one of those subtle differences. |

His name was Hamdullah Zhon... He was a Taliban in the GWOT... and he got cut down in a hail of 240L fire... This was his rifle:

That looks sweet. When I see pickups like that, I always wonder........what soldier(s) and what war(s)? His name was Hamdullah Zhon... He was a Taliban in the GWOT... and he got cut down in a hail of 240L fire... This was his rifle:

Never liked how the NoDak receivers had tiny little spot welds that you could barely even see. I'm super picky about details, so I want the Russian looking welds. |

Like 6mm. Bigger tips on the welder tongs. The little pointy ones that most come with are not suitable for AK rail welding. |

Mr Zhon had a very rare and expensive slab sided magazine. Glad he isnt here to enjoy it! ![]() I think it was a 50s Russian, I think that was the stamped date I could be wrong but it was a Russian ak47. I swear that mag had been with that gun its whole life, they were wore the exact same. |

Quoted: I'm weird I guess, i can't get into the look. I've bought some worn AKs over the years and end up refinishing them. Not a big fan of the chromed out BFPU look.
