AR15 guy here, but my little brother has an AK. He got some steel mags and most of them are very hard to lock in the well as the well is tight. Of the 5 mags he brought with the gun, only 1 went in smoothly.
Can I / Should I open the magwell up? Should I just get different mags that might be on the thinner side? I am an AK noob, but I can post pics / details about the rifle / magazines if needed. Thanks, |

The AK was built from a kit, friend of his --- like 5-6 years ago. Triangle with an upward arrow stamped on reciever, 1978, then "IH" but I think thats the start of serial. Also on bottom near magwell - EWBANKS Mags are steel - some with spine and some without. That is unusual for Ewbanks receivers to have tight mag wells. All the Ewbanks I built on were pretty loose, one in particular was excessively loose. Pull the top cover and bolt carrier off and see if you can locate exactly where it is tight. |
