On an AKM pattern rifle with the 45 degree gas block, does it matter if the gas port is drilled at 90 degrees or
can that cause problems. Thanks.

It been done without any problems that I'm aware of.

The Romanian 5.45x39 SAR-2 has 90* gas port with a 45* gas block. This is the same as their military version that's been in service for the last 25+ years.
