Just picked some of this up from the local autozone and I'm pretty impressed with the results. I had 2 rusty mags along with a partial cleaning kit that I picked up from a garage sale. Looked like they had been stored in a tin shed with a leaky roof LOL. Hit them with a wire wheel on the drill to knock some of the rust off and let the chemical do it's job and then dropped one mag in fully assembled (was rusted shut) the other mag the follower was still movable so I took it apart before letting it soak along with the night sight set and the cleaning kit case and tools (missing the cap for the cleaning kit).
Fast forward 24 hrs. and I take everything out and wash it off with some dish detergent. The bluing is almost completely removed from both mags and all the smaller pieces and the rust is gone. The mag that was rusted together was immeadiately working again as soon as I took it out of the solution. Took it apart and the solution went everywhere there was rust and removed it. So it doesn't seem to be particular about it's penetrating abilities and goes where ever the rust is and removes it, whether the mag was together or disassembled. Other than some pitting which is left behind these 2 mags and various cleaning kit pieces should work fine after refinishing For $25 a gallon this stuff works and isn't near the mess or cost of a sandblasting setup, plus it will get into the same places moisture does to attck and remove the rust. Says you can keep reusing it til it turns completely black and stops working, water soluable, easy disposable. After rinsing I'd suggest an immeadiate spray/bath in the oil of your choice as the parts flash rust as soon as your done rinsing them. Sorry no before/after pics, I just didn't think to bother 'cause some of these type products yield less than spectacular results and I wasn't really expecting much |
