You guys see anything interesting AK related come out of SHOT this year?
Sorry if this is a dupe. Looks innovative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBVKy9cZ34Y |

I've heard mixed reviews about the AKARS railed top cover. It's always been very ambiguous whether it really keeps zero.
The MARS release is interesting, although your ability to use the rifle ambidextrously is lost due to the huge lever. The charging handle looks like it's going to spray the gasses everywhere around your hand, but I liked the bolt hold open feature. Better wear gloves to not burn your hand. |

I have always viewed the AK as a rifle were the user must adapt to the rifle. I can see the benefits of a large charging handle, safety lever, and mag release lever during extreme cold environments requiring thick gloves.
I do like the TWS rail and Krebs saftey lever, how many cosmetic improvements can be overcome by training? Just my 2 pesos gents. ***Edit for spelling*** |

*sigh* solutions that look to eliminate none existant issues but witch create their own.
lets see...the lever. ok great you installed it. you can release the mag with it. great. mags don't grow on trees. You need to retain that mag. since I already have to bring my off hand up to retreive the spent or nearly spent mag whats the point of this? yeap thats right to seperate the un thinking rube from his money. want a tactical ak mag release? install and fit a galil release. the ratchet charging system. i hope it comes with a free nomex glove. cause you are gonna burn the ever loving shit out of your hand by the time you run the 3rd mag. |

I like the mag release. Not sure why you guys think it will impede mag retention or shooting off hand. It doesn't impede mag retention. That's not the point. However, it's a redundancy in motion. If you are going to use your off hand to take hold of the magazine to retain it, then why add an extra motion with your shooting hand? You can just as easily use the off hand to activate the release, store the magazine in your rig or dump pouch, and grab another magazine. AK magazines also rock into place. I'm not sure the MARS release would allow mags to drop free when mag retention isn't necessary. If you look at the way the release is designed, it would impede function when switched to the left hand shooting. It's in the way. |

Your trigger finger. also how am I supposed to activate with my left hand? i'll give you non training non competing guys a clue.....the standard sytle mag catch is ambidextrous. if you want a better mag catch buy a galil catch for $15 fit it and install it. both my AKs have them and they rock. |

it's interesting for sure. Kind of like the one for the ARs tat are out. Just not my cup of tea. I used to do a lot of pig hunting here in CenTex and when in the thicket you'd be amazed at what can get caught on crap. I try to leave a lot of "accessories" off my rifles for thjis reason alone. More crap = more things to snag on. YMMV |
