I have a B-west type 56 SR# 19XX that has severe peening on the ejector. The fire control pins are still very good although the trigger pin hole looks like it could be beginning to distort. I would like to fix the problem. I've reviewed past posts and there seems to be a lot on the subject and almost all of it conflicts. Some say the receiver is the wrong metal to re heat treat others say it was the right metal but it was just not heat treated. Some say it was the whole receiver others just the ejector.
Is there any one that tried restoring the original receiver? What did you do? Did it work or fail? Thanks. |

If you were a paying member you would be able to search the archives where I posted links to all the info before.
I believe the ejector can be welded up and hardened. If it still functions you can file the profile up a bit and then heat the ejector up with a mapp gas torch with some of this product...................... Then the trigger and hammer pin holes should be spot heat treated. You can probably google the instructions. http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14475 http://www.gunsnet.net/showthread.php?2296-Here-is-one-way-to-heat-treat-a-receiver Yes, replacing the receiver would be best, but it costs money and the rifle will no longer legally be a preban. |

If you have a new receiver that needs heat treating and you have the correct jig and kiln you do a complete receiver heat treat, Seeing as you have a receiver that is already built into a rifle you have no choice but to spot treat the receiver unless you dismantle the rifle and send the receiver out to be done by someone with the proper equipment. That also has the risk of warping your preban receiver.
If the ejector is damaged the tip can be built up by welding. If the receiver is stretching out you have nothing to lose in spot treating the axis pin holes. Some have also welded metal to the inside of the axis pin areas and then drilled holes strengthening the area. . |
