First I love this gun. Really is a favorite.
BUT It's minute of barn accurate. I always thought I was just shooting like shit as I've fallen out of practice sine I left the service. Last weekend I took three rifles to the range to shoot. The WASR and two 7.62x39 ARs I've assembled. Couldn't even group the WASR at 25 meters. As usual chalked it up to shitty shooting. Then shot the ARs. All three rounds touching at 25 meters. This performance was repeatable across multiple groups. So now that I know I can still shoot half decently I need to fix this WASR. Barrel looks OK, no obvious defects with strong/sharp lands and grooves. In fact all parts look to be in good shape. I'm thinking of rebuilding the rifle-getting a new receiver (either polish pre bent but undrilled or an NDS) and reassembling it on the new receiver. Thoughts? |

Nope everything is straight and true to the eye. What type of muzzle device are you using? Check to make sure projectiles are not touching as they exit. Next, check the condition of the crown. If that looks good, then exam the throat of the barrel. About 80% of the WASRs I've seen have had LOTS of training rounds put through them by Romanian military recruits over the years before finally being retired and sold to US importers. I've even seen some that had no rifling left for the first inch or two, yet the muzzle looked fine. |
