Im looking at converting mine from fixed to ACE side folder where you cut off the rear tang and the mounting block mounts flush with the receiver.
Whos done this and if you co do it all over would do something else? |
|
When the AW ban ended I put an Ace on my Sar 1 with the extended adaptor block.
Could never bare to cut the tang. Ace recommended I buy the Super Short stock -- bad idea too short even with the block. Once you cut that tang, you're stuck with it. It's a rugged stock. The folding mechanism takes a good bit of effort to work. |
|
A lot of people run the Ace and like it. If you cut the tang and end up not liking it you can always just get the rear trunion replaced, it's not permanent.
Though, IMO, go big or go home. Get a poly or triangle folder installed. That is pretty permanent, since it's not only a rear trunion replacement, but requires cutting the receiver. |
| I got the ACE mechanism, if I had to do it over again I would of not gone this route. They're are some new offerings in the market I would go with now here is one option Folder mech. I would do something along those lines or go big and have it done right. |

I'm looking at getting one of these for my beater '74
Bonesteel Folder |
|
Does anyone have some pictures of this Bonesteel folder on a rifle? |
|
I just can't commit to cutting off the tang personally.
But that's your call. FYI: CNC Warrior and Bonesteel have some items that are the same but may vary on some details. One may have a folder that only folds to the left, the other has the same item that folds to the right or can be ordered either way. The FAB stuff looks nice too, but, I think they're not a USA part if you need it for 922. |

Similar thread about this just a few days ago; has pictures of a Beryl sidefolder as well:
