OK I finally took the plundge. I found a Century M74 at what I believe a good deal. (I know these arent considered the good ones). It's a AK 74 with the black poly stock set.

A couple of questions.
Can you remove the muzzle device and replace it with one simular to a normal AK?
Where can I get a shorter butt stock?

The deal I got was:
Rifle in execellent condition
1080 rounds od Russian ammo
2 Circle 10 Mags and 2 Circle 23 Mags.

$625

Thanks

Sounds like you got a good deal.

The muzzle on the AK74 is 24mm, so you can't put a slant brake on it. Manticore makes a flash suppressor for 24mm threads if you want to look at alternates, but for the most part options are limited unfortunately.
Check APEX (they are a site sponsor) for Bulgarian wood or Polymer stock sets, they are fairly cheap and what would have been on your 74 originally. They look to be shorter too.

Hope this helps, congrats on the new AK.

The 74 brake is superior to the slant brake...faster followup shots, more controllable at higher rates of fire and really shows it's usefulness as the distance increases.

If it came with a NATO length stock it's easy enough find a Warsaw length to replace it. KVAR has high quality US made stocks in black, plum and green, though those are rare. Congrats on joining the darkest side of the dark side

Not bad bro.

That was my very first rifle.

As long as the sights are all straight you will be good to go.  Its a great shooter.

Go for the Kvar stock...hell actually go for the kvar furniture set.  If i recall, all the furniture that came with it was garbage.
