| So I looked up drilling out old rivets, seems easy enough. Is it suggested that I use a drill press (which I don't currently have) or can I do this with a standard hand drill? Once the rivet is out, do I need a special riveting tool or can I just replace it with a nut and bolt? |

You can us a standard drill. Just file the top of the rivet flat and then start to drill out with a small drill bit and work your way to larger bits until your bit is as big as the rivit. Some catch rivets are cupped on one side so you can just drill those out. You could use a bolt/nut but most replacement mag catches come with a replacement catch rivet.

I'm interested in the answer to this question as well. |
| You have to press the rivets. The easiest way to get where you want to be is to find someone in your area that is tooled up for AK building, and it would take them about 30 seconds to do that for you. It's not hard, there is just some tooling, and a bit of art, to doing it well. |
