So this is not really fixing the threads but making them crisp again.  I got another AK the other day and it had a AK74 style brake on it.  I believe that it is a FAB defense brake cause I know it's not a Tapco and it weighs a ton.  I took it off as I "was" going to put a normal slant brake on it and the damn AK74 brake was a bit$% to get off.  When I got it off I noticed that the threads were not as crisp and clean as my other AK's and when I put the -slant brake- on it that brake was really wobbly, more than my others about half way on. I don't mind the FAB brake but is it worth doing or should I leave it alone.  You can still thread a brake on but I wouldn't feel safe with a slant on it.  Suggestions?  It is a Wasr

$8 and they're really handy. it's a crude tool but I have saved countless thousands of dollars in tooling with these. everyone should have at least two in their tool box

where in TX? I have a TAT and die and might possibly be able to chase the threads for you.

How far past the detent will the slant brake turn before it won't turn anymore?  I had one that fit loose and by filing the back of the slant brake was able to get it to lock up tight against the FSB with no wobble.

Why not?  If it is up against the FSB and locked by the detent pin, there should be no problem.  It's not going anywhere, and you don't have to worry about bullet strikes on a slant brake.

If the threads are "loose", there's not much you can do, outside of teflon tape, or maybe a "crush-washer" to help take up the slack.  All the filing/thread chasing in the world isn't going to make those threads bigger.  Only a 3# hammer is going to do that!

Thanks for the responses.  I will just put a little teflon on the threads.
