I'm having trouble installing the hammer pin into my Maadi AK 47.  I can't get the pin to go in all the way through.  Seems like the pin is getting hung up on the hammer & won't allow it to go completely through.  I just need it to go in a tad more to install the retainer that keeps the pins in place.  Any ideas how to solve this???

You using a tool or just your hands?  I usually have to use a hammer and a punch to get the pins out and back in.

Does the pin go thru the hammer easily when it's not in the rifle?

The hammer will have strong springs that makes matters worse. What causes the most problem is the springs press against it and the little lip that the holder sits on gets hung up on the receiver.

Normally will grab the hammer with a pliers which allow you to wiggle it around much easier and if need be use a plastic/rubber hammer pop it in.

Another big helper is a gun vice even a cheap one from walmart will help. Plus it is nice for cleaning and installing shepard hooks.

YMMV

The pin goes through easily but it won't go all the way in to where it sits flush.

It's just not an easy thing to do. Keep trying !!! You might try a punch pushed in from the opposite side to line things up as you push pin in from the other direction.

Beat me to it.  I have a WASR that's tougher than my other AKs to get the pins in and this is how I do it...

Does the pin go in without the hammer ? You should not need a hammer and punch to get it in unless something is  out of spec.  Tieing the ends of the spring together behind the hammer with a twist tie also allows you to get the hammer in without spring tension.

The pin will go in without the hammer.
