I am looking at buying my first ak47, and I don't really know how to pick a good one from a bad one. I will be buying it from atlanticfirearms.com and I would like to know if anyone can help me pick out my first AK. I have $1000 to spend and I live in CA, if that helps in picking out one. I heard Arsenal is good, but if anyone can point me in the right direction or pick a AK out for me that would be a big help, thanks.

Hmm problem is living in Cali you can't own most AK-47 type rifles. I have seen a pump action AK-47 for Cali owners though.... Or you can move to a free state and buy a semi-auto AK-47 rifle with hi-cap mags and all that evil goodness Might want to learn more about Cali gun laws by posting in the Hometown section.

He just needs one of those "bullet button" deals and he can own most AKs that the rest of us can own.

How do you put a bullet button on an AK? The mag release is a lever between the mag and the trigger guard.

If you are set on buying from Atlantic, I would call them and ask them if they offer any CA compliant rifles.  I have seen these offered through several vendors.  They should be set up with bullet-buttons already installed and all "evil" features removed or neutered.  Search the www. for other vendors.  There are quite a few.

Become aware of what Kalifornia allows and disallows in "assault weapons".  You might want to surf the Calguns forums.  You might find out more CA-specific info there.

From my understanding I can get any AK47 as long as it has a 10 round clip and has a bullet button. Folding stocks are out god I hate this state.
