I have several peps I help build Ak,s and my Bro-In-Law ordered a receiver and it was to be shipped to his FFl but the shipper sent it to his personal home... He asked me what to do.... I said Take it to your FFL and tell him what happened with out opening the package and let him fill out the right paper work to get it legal in you hands... He said Im crazy why pay for the FFL charge if he docent have to.... I said so its legal to sell.... What you think Im I a fool.....

When it comes to issues involving gun laws, I try to cover my own ass.  I'd take it to the dealer and pay for the transfer.  I'm not looking into getting caught up in any part of an illegal firearm transaction.

I agree if its my ass on the line Id rather walk away. But I guess its up to him I just don't like the feeling of helping when I know it started off wrong..... I actually told him Me helping him for free is worth more than the 40 or 30 bucks he's paying his FFL...... I guess the ball is in his court if not he builds it alone....

There's no way I'd play with gun laws.  It's way too easy for this government to take away your 2nd Amendment rights.   He should absolutely go to a FFL and do the transfer...

Was it a bent receiver or a flat?

A flat doesn't have to go through an FFL, so it's safe to assume that it's a complete receiver.

Did he buy this receiver through an FFL or a private individual? I can't imagine an FFL holder dropping the ball like that!

Yeah I know I just figured I'd ask the obvious question, as it seems really odd anyone would ship a receiver to a non FFL address.

It's hard to say who dropped  the ball, but I will give you one that happened to me.. when I started building guns I was into AR,s and ( I won't say who) had a special for receivers 3 for 180.00 shipped and insured for 210.00 so I and two brothers went in in the deal... Ok so the shipping label said to my FFL then second line had my name John smith then my ffls address of any town any city and zip USA.....so when the package showed up at my FFL a new employee said to fed ex.   No one here by  that name,,,,, so fed ex sent me a e mail my package was ready for pick up by me and I went and picked my FFL who was a personal friend to see if they would give me the package, so with my ID they did, he did the transfer to me and my two siblings and we went on to build our AR,s.. And no a pre bent AK47 100 percent reciever needs a FFL and it was from a national company...I didn't put the real names but the story is true...names have been changed to protect the innocent....As I said to my Bro-in-law  if you want my help do it right if not handle it yourself...Well talking about this I will say my niece moved to Las Vegas NV and showed me a place (new frontier armoury) had three packs of AR-15,s for 210.00 He'll of a deal... I have build one of their stripped lowers and next to spikes the easiest build I have done....I think shipping was 12 bucks for all three together...what I liked about them and spikes is the back pin detent hole was threaded in case you want to use a hex set screw to told in the pin detent and spring...just some info......

I read that twice and still don't get the moral of the story

Personally I'd recommend taking it to the FFL filling out the 4473. Sounds like they shipped to the billing address not the ship to address. I'd also give a courtesy call to where you bought them. It could be a glich in their system or just a human error. Ethier way it would be nice for them to know so they dont get into trouble. Just my .2 cents

I have had an FFL give me a lower without a 4473,    I took it from the new guy at the back counter to the owner who had a desk by the door...   New guy got some retraining.

Your deal sounds like a private individual deal possibly..   IE if the seller and buyer are in the same state you can ship direct with no need to use an FFL.   Well most states anyway I am sure its not this way in Komifornia etc but most states are this way.

Moral of the story was do it right so you can keep it right or sell it right when it feels right

If the seller is ever investigated for doing this with someone else your bro n laws name and # could come up.Better safe than gunless.

I had AK's sent to the ffl guy I use 4 different times. On the 4 one, I noticed they were writing down the original ser # off the trunion rather than the mfg's number. I called them up and told them they goofed, they got mad a me. I talked to the owner, and could not get him to understand. Finally took all 4 down there and showed them what they did.

I wonder how many they have done wrong....

I agree but after much agruements he finally agreed to go with me to my FFL and get it done right its was just a hassle since he opened the package and inspected the receiver.... My guy is cool though and said as long is he had the invoice from the shipper he contacted the shipper and got everything straight.. Butttt what I found out is it was the carriers fault since they didn't contact the receiver of the receiver or the shipper they contacted the person it was for....  What a sticky situation but as I told my bro in law, Its better to do this since its not a home bent receiver your chances of selling this weapon in the future is better with a legal and paper trailed receiver than one which you don't have any legal background on.... Although not many peps would buy a home made before a store purchased one at first glance....My FFl charges me 40 bucks and 5 bucks for any after with then  same transfer so I think its a good deal....

Damn, my FFL charges $20 per transfer, even if it is for multiple receivers.
