| I clean all my firearms after every range session. As far as the AK goes, do you guys always remove the top hand guard and clean out the tube? How about the small exposed section of the gas block? Please do not respond that AK never need cleaning or anything like that, I actually enjoy the process. Just looking to see what others do. |

I am the most anal retentive AK owner here I think. I remove hammer and trigger group, clean the whole inside, clean the bore and the barrel. Remove comp, scrub, scrub the end of barrel, scrub all carbon off piston, run a 12 gauge brush through gas tube, then my 12 gauge bore snake. Scrub the GB and run a wire down it to clean any excess carbon there too. I have these kids toothbrushes I use to scrub all the areas. Reassemble and finish it off with some CLP on a boar's hair shaving brush to lightly coat the outside of the weapon. |

If you are shooting corrosive ammo, you should absolutely clean those areas. |

I pretty much do this ^ ececpt I only remove the trigger group once every couple thousand rounds. Also a place alot of people overlook is the face of the front trunnion around the barrel..with the lower handguard removed look at the trunnion on either side of the barrel just above where the handguard slides into the receiver and there will be carbon build up there as well but it's easily cleaned with a slim brush dipped in solvent. I almost love cleaning as much as shooting |
| I shoot corrosive ammo so it comes off. After rinsing with water and drying, I use Gunslick FBC in the bore and gas tube. The gas tube really doesn't need it but since I'm foaming everything else, I might as well. Once the foam is done working, I use a 12Ga. bore mop (the 3' long pipe cleaner thingy) and that's it. |
| While I don't remove the gas tube from the gun, I do clean it every time I clean the gun. I use the cleaning rod & patches with Hoppes #9, just like cleaning the barrel. I then spray brake cleaner in the tube, & it comes out the barrel. I never use corrosive ammo. GARY N4KVE |

I don't shoot corosive ammo. but I do have a question, how do I remove the lower handguard? I have an Arsenal SGL-24 with plum synthetic stock set. And on a further note, I only use Eezox. Seems to work great. There is a little lever on the back side of the handguard retainer tucked down between the barrel and handguard flip this up and the retainer will slide forward on the barrel then just slide the handguard forward. |
