Debanning just means taking a rifle that was built to be in compliance with the assault weapons ban and making it have the once illegal features on it again.

For example taking a MAK90 and installed a standard AK stock and pistol grip or threading the barrel.  Some guys go as far as changing out the gas block to add one with a bayonet lug.

As long as your state doesn't have it's own assault weapons ban and you keep the rifle 922(r) compliant, you are good to go and there are no legal issues.

So, a year 2000-2002 SAR series rifle can have a folding stock put on, etc?

Yep.  An SAR will have enough US parts on it already so you won't have to worry about 922r unless parts you change on it are US made (the stock isn't, so a folding stock won't require any other parts changes).

What are the US parts on an SAR?

Trigger group is 3 {?} + the tappet rod + the pistol grip.  Total...5 so far.  Isn't the requirement 6?

The requirement is how many foreign parts you can have.  No more than 10.

How many US made parts you need varies based on the rifle.  The SAR doesn't have a muzzle device, so that is one less foreign part.  So you only need 5 to be compliant.  But if you thread the barrel and add a foreign muzzle device, you have to replace a foreign part with a US part to keep the foreign part count at no more than 10.

I really don't need the pig sticker, but other surplus parts might come in handy.

The SAR also already has the correct FSB with the hole already in it for the spring loaded detent pin on it so it's easier to thread the barrel and install a muzzle device. I have threaded a couple and swapped out the gas block on my own so it has the all it's "evil" goodness and is now a much deadlier rifle because of these features. These things are fairly easy to do if you have the tools and equipment or know somebody who does. One thing that I would say is an absolute must do is to swap out the shitty Century FCG with a US FCG of your choice (I highly recomend the Tapco G2). Even though the Century FCG is US compliant it is garbage and any other US FCG would be better.

I don't really "need" a "pigsticker" either, but need has nothing to do with it.

Check out the Romanian section for a couple of good SAR threads and lots of pics.

I'm so glad that by the time I turned 21 years old, the retarded assault weapons ban had expired.
