Got a arsenal ak, shooting at 100 yards with a vortex strikefire on it.  Mount is secure, got all that fixed, and my bullet's are going up at 45 degree angle with a 15" spread.  Took the mount off and did 5 shot's open sight's thinking maybe I could do better well my 5 shot's had almost the same pattern and spread.  Shooting secured on a bench.  Any fixes or thing's too look for.  I don't think I've ever had a ak shoot this bad.  Shooting golden tiger fmj ammo.

Golden tiger ammo isn't your problem.  Have you zeroed your irons at a closer range?

It was pretty well sighted in when I got it left to right anyway, but yeah it seemed to show the same movement even at 25 yards.  I was pulling the trigger maybe every 3-5 seconds just using a 5 round mag.  Golden tiger has always been very accurate in my sks's, didn't think it would be the issue.  I've probably only got 60 rounds down range now.

What Arsenal model is it?

I think it's a sgl-21, I bought it a while ago back when k-var had their blow out sale for 500 bucks, maybe that was 2-3 years ago.  Just getting around to play with it.

Try shooting it with the brake removed. Check the barrel crown.

Try a different brand of ammo.  I have the same problem with Wolf in my WASR.

Thanks for the tip's, I'll try to shoot some wolf 154 grain sp through it to see if that  makes a difference, I also wondered about the brake.  I'll probably try to break it down and give it a good cleaning just to see if I see anything.  I've got a romy g kit rifle and a yugo underfolder that shoot pretty darn good compared to this rifle

That is the worst feeling when you go to shoot a new gun and its all over the place. I don't know what kind of brake is on it, but is it removable? If so, take it off and see what happens. Sometimes the threads in the brake can be crooked and the bullet can actually hit it. Clean up the muzzle crown with bore cleaner and look at it with magnification to see if there is any irregularity at the end of the barrel around the edge. The rest of the 'crown' doesn't matter - it's the end of the barrel that the bullet last touches that's critical. Clean the bore with bore cleaner before the next session. See if the rear sight is loose and check that the slider holds the setting. Check the front sight base for movement and make sure the sight post drum is tight and the sight post does not rotate easily. Grab the barrel and try to wiggle it and the trunion in the receiver. Touch the barrel retaining pin to see if its loose. These are all just normal inspection items that you would do on a new rifle before shooting.

I cleaned the gun and gave it a good looking over, crown appears to be fine, removed the type 74 muzzle brake.  The only thing that appeared off was when I removed the bolt carrier from the rifle the piston portion of the receiver that fit's in the gas tube wobbled and is loose.  It appears it is threaded in with a dimple to sort of lock it in place.  It doesn't appear as if it was screwed in very far.  Would that cause any sort of a accuracy issue.  Should I just a grab a vise grip and try to thread it in till it's solid?

No the wobble is normal.  Try shooting without the brake.

The gas piston on AKs is supposed to have some wobble to it.  It's a reliability thing.. gives it some play to keep it from binding up when it seats back in the gas block when the action cycles.  No issues with that.  The threads should go about a half inch or so into the bolt carrier.

Removed the brake and did some shooting, groups were much smaller about 4 inches, life was good for a while and then for whatever reason the bullet's started going a foot higher.  At this point I figued my mount shifted or something.  I haven't had good luck with my rs mount with vortex strikefire.  I'm still a little uncertain if it's the mount or the barrel heating up making everything go higher.  I'm going to try and  do some experiementing with it. do some more targets with iron sites and maby try another mount and scope.  I'll get it figured out eventualy, worse comes to worse I'll unload the rife at a gun show and move to something different.

How tight does your gas tube fit? If it's really tight between the the gas block and the trunnion after the barrel warms up some it could be putting pressure on it.

Sounds like your scope and/or mount. Check inside that muzzle brake to see if there's any brass scrapes inside it's muzzle. Two things could make it crooked - poor manufacture of the brake or the barrel threads or just fitting loose on the barrel threads, letting it 'hang' down in front.

I'll look at that, if I recall I didn't clean that because I couldn't get it popped off without a screw driver.  Good idea.
