Hey guys
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on an internal block setup with Magpul CTR stock. I was thinking of going with the internal block here http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-372/Saiga-AK47-Internal-Stock/Detail the ACE pignose adapter http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-170/ACE-CAR15-SAIGA-AK47/Detail and this buffer tube and castle nut http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-653/CAR-UTG-TLU001-MILSPEC/Detail http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-470/TAPCO-CAR-AR-NUT/Detail Is there anything else I need? And should I get a better buffer tube, or will the $20 UTG tube suffice? (I'll have to admit that I cringe when I hear 'UTG'). Edit: I just found out that BCM buffer tubes have a good reputation and have 6 positions available. May go with that one unless you guys have other ideas... Also, what tool will I need to install the tube? I don't have an AR, so I don't have any wrenches that might fit a castle nut. |

You won't need a castle nut wrench. I cut off the tang on the receiver with a dremel. I cut down the buffer tube and then filed it until it screwed in at the correct angle (took forever). The pig nose adapter has a set screw underneath, so you don't have to file it if you don't want to. To be honest, I hate the setup now. I wish I left the tang so I could have put a wood stock on it and wood furniture. Oh well. Live and learn. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/cobravenom39/DSC00015.jpg Is cutting the buffer tube necessary? Why do you hate the setup? I have no plans for wood furniture. I'm going for the most practical setup I can come up with (not trying to be tacticool). I'm using an AK-100 series gb/fsb with threaded part removed, barrel cut to 14.5" and perm-attached comp. TWS GenII rail with red dot or possibly an ACOG if I could ever afford it. The purpose of the Magpul stock is to get the cheek weld where it should be, esp. if I get an ACOG. The setup will be extremely fast and lean and clean. |

If you don't mind cutting off the tang, then an internal block, with pig nose adapter and tube, will work. Also check out the SGM rear trunnion and the ETAC adapter. The ACE FSM-AR might interest you as well.
But if you don't want to cut off anything, the VLTOR tube/adapter will allow you to mount an AR stock on you AK with ease. |

The gun is just to f'ing heavy and ugly.
It was a Saiga conversion and I wanted the CTR for the cheek riser, too. Then I realized that I wanted to lighted it as much as possible. The first Ace pushbutton sidefolder was garbage, but thank God Midway took it back. I then got the regular sidefolder, but it still has a tiny bit of play. I just hate it. I wanted it tacticool and then I changed my mind. I put all the mall ninja stuff back on my ARs and keep my AK's light and lean. To each his own. I didn't listen to the guys telling me not to do it, either. |

I'd go with the Vltor anyway, unless you want a folding stock. |

With regards to the VLTOR adapter, I've thought about going this route, but I just think the internal block setup looks cleaner. Of course, you have to cut the tang.. |

I built a fairly short AK (10 in barrel) and like the side folder on it, but really regret it on my Siaga 12! |
