Hello all, quick question. Any help would be appreciated.

Just finished installing a Tapco G2 Double Hook FCG on my MAK 90 for the whole 922r bit. Everything is good to go, but I have noticed that, with the dust cover removed and enough upward force applied on the safety (i.e. up further than the "safe" position [almost to the 2 oclock position if look at it from the side], it will push up on the hammer and release which would cause it to strike the firing pin. Now, with the dust cover on, it obviously isn't an issue because it blocks the safety from going up any further, but I am wondering if this is a) safe and b) normal.

I have applied a pretty significant amount of upward pressure with the dustcover on to see if it would in fact go off if snagged or something like that, but I am confident that it won't. Still, it seems slightly unsafe. Also, I do not know if this is "normal" because the sear on from my original MAK 90 trigger assembly had a little tooth on the back that prevented the safety from rotating any further than the "safe" position while the trigger assembly was installed.

This is my first AK, and I know that MAK 90s have some slight differences with their safeties/ FCG (from reading other forums and such while figuring out how to do the assembly), so I am not sure if I messed something up, or this is how all other AKs are as they do not have that little tooth on the sear that I was referring to (or do they?)

Thanks for the help, I am planning on going to the range Friday and just want to make sure it is good to go.

watch what it's doing when you do this.

you're making it operate out of its normal area of operation. It's a non issue unless you run around w/o a dust cover

Hey thanks, but could you clarify please? Do you mean when out at the range, and I am good to go, or when I push the safety lever up with the dust cover off (I essentially discovered this inadvertently and have only done it 2-3 times). What do you mean by "what what it is doing when you are doing this," and "you are making it operate out of its normal area of operation" ? Do you mean I just need to be aware of my weapon when using it and make sure it doesn't happen? And I didn't think replacing the trigger group would make it operate outside of its area of operation. Thanks for your help!

He means that moving the safety up with the dust cover off and a round in the chamber would be something you shouldn't be doing with the weapon. My opinion is that it is a non-issue. Make sure the weapon is unloaded before you pull the safety out and you are good to go.

Thanks. And I certainly haven't been doing it while loaded. I don't see any fun/ novelty in that. I just discovered it when reassembling (the MAK- 90 safety took some finagling to get back in, and I was having some issues getting it to work properly and discovered it by chance). Thanks for your help.

I meant it by watching what it's doing. The bottom is hitting the disconnector and allowing to let the hammer go. Depending on what retention sytem you are using for the trigger and the hammer, you may be able to put the safety lever in 1st. When the safety's are cut for semi-auto, they do not interfere with the disconnector, but I do not think they ever did this on the Chinese, just the new Euro pattern rifles.
