What's the difference between the two, besides the obvious?  Do certain models require a double hook?

Certain models require a single hook because of the receiver.

If you're AK has a stamped receiver, it should need a single hook.  The only variable there is if someone modded the receiver to take a double hook.  Which is unlikely.

A lot of stamped receivers are set up to use either.
Simply look at the trigger hole in the bottom of the receiver.
If the front of the hole has one slot on the front side it's set up for a single hook, two slots and you can use a double hook or a single.

If you want, you can easily cut a second slot in the receiver so you can use a double hook unit.  A small round needle file can be used to file a second slot.

There's really no advantage of one over the other.  Some people think the double hook unit is a little smoother, some don't.
