Let's have a picture thread devoted to the Battlefield Pick Up look.
If you could include the following with your picture: - make / model - how it was had the BFPU patina applied to the rifle (how did you do it?) I'll see about this getting added to the picture threads if it takes off. |

Quoted: My offering. I used Scotchbrite pads and a couple of dremel wire brush accessory bits (for the tight spots) to remove the original finish. It can take awhile, so you have to be patient. My best advice is to go SLOW and check your progress often. It's very easy to take too much off in one area, if you let yourself get carried away. If you do take too much off, Birchwood Casey "Super Blue" works great to re-darken those areas. You can literally "wax on, wax off" the color between the Super Blue/Scotchbrite pads to get it just right. Since I found the top cover had taken the original paint much differently than the rest of the rifle, I basically had to remove all the finish from the top cover which left it "polished" looking. I then re-darkened it with Super Blue using this method and lightly went over it with a Scotchbrite pad. It worked great. Keep some CLP on hand and thoroughly oil everything really well when you're done to stop the parts from rusting (the reaction of the Super Blue on metal will result in some corrosion.) But after a couple applications, the rust will stop blooming. A genuine BFPU look varies quite a bit, so an "authentic" BFPU finish can have several different looks. -Polish Underfolder parts build/ITM receiver http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh448/archangel41/DSC07578.jpg http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh448/archangel41/DSC07574.jpg http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh448/archangel41/DSC07566.jpg http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh448/archangel41/DSC07558.jpg I love that rifle. You did a great job on that. |

This would make a great "keep that crap off my AK" type of picture! http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh448/archangel41/1RUSSIAN.jpg LOL! Heinrich says, "Keep that crap off my AK!" Perfect for the ultra communist conservative national socialist AK enthusiast |

Here's mine. I liked the patina on the kit so much I scuffed the receiver to match. Even found a heavily used sling to round things out. I need a heavily worn mag to go along with it, though. That, or take a scotchbrite pad to one... http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s131/bdaleray/Firearms/ROM-AK.jpg Certainly does have a nice patina. I would have kept it too... |

He has tha expression not because he has a full auto ak but because he just unleashed a massive fart on the baklava wearing guy right behind his ass....he subsequently succumbed to the poor trigger finger position/control of said farted party.

Mostly used a 3M scuff pad and a drywall sanding pad, a little 00 steel wool and in a few places 100 grit sand paper. Then I skipped her off the pavement a few times and kicked the mags around the shop floor! This is a 1971 WASR-10 63, the stock and fore grip were what inspired me to do teh BFPU, looks like a nice well worn AK... I love it ! http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214402.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214410.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214421.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214434.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214459.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214507.jpg Tools of the "battlefield" http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/boaz22/IMG_20110910_214533.jpg You kinda managed to recreate a "patina" on the metal. Nice work! |
