Just picked up this SAR-3 today for $250.00 from a friend thinning his collection for financial purposes. Came with 2 10rd mags.  I've shot this a few times before, shoots great...I cant find much on it though besides basic mfg. info and such. Also a semi-lengthy search has turned up nothing on where I can get mags for this...any one know????

Considering you can't really even find a WASR for under 400 dollars anymore, i'd say you did awesome!

I cant find a value post 09 though, are these scarce or something?  Its chambered in 5.56 ... I forgot to mention that. Im finding SAR-3 mags in 7.62 and found 2 poly ones in 5.56 but read bad things about them. I guess the hunt is on for real mags for it

Yes, scarce. I seen them on the EE one or twice since I've been here. IIRC they go upward of $100 for a 30 rounder.

Wow!! Might just stick with the 2  10 rounders i have then!  Maybe i'll be able to scrounge something up at a gun show.  Any idea on the value of the gun? I found a few old GA auctions that ended at around 650$...but that was pre-during-post O'l flappy's election judging by the dates.

$400 to $475 would probably be your range.

I don't know if it will sell quickly or not.  As you know, finding mags is tricky.

I have a SAR 3 but its chambered in 5.45.  My SAR 1 is chambered in 7.62 and my Sar 2 is in 5.56.

Yes, the 5.56 mags are especially pricey.  I have seen them at $40 but they are excellent mil surp quality mags.

Have you tried the polymer mags? Are they as bad as im reading?
I mean i guess its not overly important to get 30's for it, I have plenty of defence guns. I got this this one pretty much for a fun gun because I love the way it shoots...and I couldnt argue with the price....but a few 30rd's would be nice.

Man this thing throws brass like I have never seen... about a good 18'up and 25' to the left!!! It all winds up on top of the pullbarn!

Incorrect.  SAR3 is a 5.56 ....SAR2 is 5.45...you will need the weiger 5.56 mags for your rifle.

I saw the name Weiger pop up in a few forums I saw in my searches.... seems your right and thats what I need. 10 min search and I just found them on Apex for $30 each. Checkout complete...few on the way!

Apex for $30 ea is what I would do. I'd grab 4-5 and be done with it.

You can also use the East German Bakelite 5.45 mags if you change the followers out...I Think..also remove the top cover and see how the hammer strikes the back of the bolt. Sometimes it dosnt strike it flush and can damage the bolt.

Wieger mags are the ones to run in an SAR-3. Don't bother playing with EG ones, been their, done that.
Do check your hammer profile to bolt stem. I've had 2 SAR-3's and both needed to be adjusted.
On one I reshaped the hammer,on the other I just droped in a Red Star Arms FCG(you can buy just the hammer).
Good luck,enjoy your new toy
