Question for everyone out there. I was told that "Century seems to have a problem with getting the Front Sight Base on AKs cocked to the right".  I have not seen that in any of the rifles I have ever sold so I was wondering if this is something others have run into.  I would hate to think the are pumping out rifles with that kind of major defect but you never know.  Anyway, would love to hear anyone who has had this experience, or for that matter if you have never had an issue.

It's an issue with AK's in general.  It seems like every company out there has put out an AK with this issue.

I've got a SAR-1 built in 2001 with an obvious counter-clockwise cant. Though this was imported by Century, the defect is the fault of Cugir Arsenal where it was built.

Nonetheless, it was easily compensated for by adjusting the sight drum and it shoots great.

Arsenal sends out alot of rifles with crooked front sights and they wont fix them  either if you send it back

that's 3 threads....go to the Bulgarian and Russian section, there's tons of threads you can hate on there.

Back on topic....I have seen Century rifles missing pins in the FS and can actually move the FS by hand. Century has made a name for themselves for selling rifles that aren't straight.

As stated above, all companies that produce AKs seem to have had this problem from time to time. The only thing I can think of that causes this is a lazy builder, or a moment of laziness.

I've assembled several rifles myself, and if you take the time to actually check your work, you won't get crooked sites. My 2 cents anyway.

That's pretty interesting to hear this may be ubiquitous across AK manufacturers.  Sounds like I need to watch closer when I get these in stock to make sure I'm not getting defective guns.

I've had two century guns with crooked front sights.  I can't remember if they were both canted the same way.

I guess the Russians are so excited about the end of the Cold War that they are still celebrating when they are manufacturing the rifles, and as far as they know, those sights are dead on, but when the beer, or vodka goggles fade, they are canted as hell :-)

I would think it would behoove anyone buying manufactured AK's in today's world to inspect them. It also boils down to volume. If you have 100s coming and going, it may not be practical to do more than a sampling of the bunch.

There's also varying degrees of cant. Some are canted, but still able to be zeroed, others are too crooked to zero.

I put it in the category of "the nature of the beast". Yea, probably shouldn't be, but it's still a fact of life that it can and will happen.

I'd bet that would pass inspection in the military service of every country that issued the weapon.

My Wasr was fine.

built streight and shoots streight. and for the price could not be beat.

You just have to check where the rifles are being made, the Wasrs are made in Romania, so its bassically a factory ak.

Im willing to bet most of them are fine, people tend to not be chatty about good stuff like they are with bad stuff.

So can you tell by looking or can you only tell once you start shooting?  All the inventory I looked over appeared to be fine. Anyway...thanks for everyone's input.

If the fsb is off enough to make it impossible to zero the rifle  you can tell by looking.
I find the easiest way to tell is by standing the rifle up and looking at it from several feet away. Severe misalignment is obvious.
YMMV
