I received an Arsenal 32-61 yesterday. The first thing I noticed about the gun was the "muzzle attachment". It is basically a dummy muzzle attachment with the actual barrel passing completely thru it and barely protruding from the end of the attachment.
I was not aware of this, and have spent some time pondering it. My rough measurements show the actual barrel to be approximately 16"+ long. I measured the barrel on an M4 carbine, and the rough measurement showed it to be right at 16" to the rear of the flash hider, with of course the barrel extending a short distance into the flash hider.
Apparently the 32-61 is set up this way to meet the minimum barrel length requirement. I have a couple of SBR's but I'm by no means an expert when it comes to the laws/restrictions.
I have given some thought to shortening the barrel of the 32-61 back to the muzzle threads but I don't think I would really be gaining anything unless I used a short muzzle device such as a slant break or even a plain muzzle nut. I don't know if those parts are available in 24mm R/H thread.
Also a shorter barrel would of course effect muzzle velocity.
I'll probably leave it as it is.
The muzzle attachment is lightweight and may be made of aluminum. I'm not sure about that. It has a "blued" high gloss finish on it that contrasts sharply with the finish of the gun, except for the butt stock sling swivel and the butt plate. These 3 parts may be good candidates for some Duracoat or something similar. I'll probably never get around to doing that, but it's a thought.
I guess I'm just rambling, and I'm not complaining at all. I just unexpectadly ran into something that is new to me.
I'm going to zero the iron sights today with the Russian ammo I have, then pretty soon install an Ultimak when it arrives.

you can shorten the barrel to the threads and tac weld the flash suppressor.  Thats what I would do without having to sbr.

The 105 type rifle with the 12" barrel is actually quite handy. Fits a niche between the AKSU and the full size. Chris Butler at AK103 makes 2 versions, 1 that will extend out to 16" and be perm attached to keep it legal, and the other is a real 105 brake if you decide to SBR.

Here is a pic to show the difference between a 105 and an AKSU brake

AKSU brake

105

they look similar, but the 105 is actually shorter.

Another option would be to do what Bryan from AIM did. He threaded the end of the barrel and added an flash hider. I actually really like his concept on this rifle even though it goes completely against my deep rooted traditionalist attitude.

There is a muzzle nut they make for the 24mm threads also as seen here:

There's a little more to your rifle also. The FSB is Bulgarian, not Russian, so if you do SBR it or use any of Chris Butler's brakes, make sure you tell him they are for a Bulgarian 105 FSB. Also, most "production type" 105's were sidefolders, not sure if that is an option for you, but would be more correct.

Gentlemen I appreciate the input. The SBR wheels are starting to turn.
I'll bookmark this for future referance.
Bryan has a very modern, updated AK. I've met Bryan and he is a real nice guy.
Thanks again.

What are the lengths of both of those breaks?  I am doing an AK-102 and an AK-105 build, and I need to know if either of those will give me the legal length, since I cant own an SBR where I am at.

Thanks.

About 3.25" for the longer of the two, which is the AKSU booster

they won't be long enough. You will have to buy an extended 4 piece like sold in the EE or get one of Chris Butler's extended pieces.
