| Which AK/AKMs in had these and are they not seen on Romanian Variants ?? |
| As far as I know all the Romanian rifles had vents in the gas block and not the tube. I believe the very early Russian, and a lot of the Chinese rifles were the only ones with vented tubes. That said it does not matter in the function of the rifle at all. Some rifles (new Saiga's) have no vents in the block or tube from the factory. With my limited and non-scientific testing it seems like the vents only serve to help force debris out of the gas system instead of depositing it on your carrier/piston, and into your receiver and under your sight block. |

The original AK had vents in the gas tube.
That was changed when the AKM was introduced. It vents through the block. The Chinese did not copy the AKM design. They produced a rifle with a stamped receiver which had most of the other features of the AK - barrel diameter, double hook trigger, vented tube, stock drop, etc. ETA: The tubes are interchangable without any effect on operation, but if you use a non-vented tube on a non-vented block you get more powder residue in the tube and receiver. |
