Hello gents. I finally purchased my first AK47 about a week ago. I thought I would take care of two firsts for me with this post, 1. my first post on this website and 2. my first AK. I wanted to put up some pictures and ask if the price I paid was reasonable and also what the hive would recommend for accessories or tips I should consider for the rifle. I bought the rifle from a vendor that was at the Valley Forge gun show for $385.00 and it came with a mag and the cleaning kit that fits in the stock. The reason for the purchase was : 1. I did not have an AK yet, 2. Wanted for plinking and a backup center fire rifle, and 3. possibly for a truck gun. With these reasons in mind and from my research on this site I decided all I really needed was a WASR 10, nothing fancy or too expensive, as long as it goes bang when the trigger is pulled and shoots with man-sized MOA.

What type of AK did you buy? Also since this is your first post welcome to the dark side:) We are a bit nicer over here on this side. Now go hit the newbie thread Oh see you got a Wasr good cheap starter they work great just a little ugly. Not much you need with a AK lots of ammo and mags would be what you need. Maybe a nice weaver style side mount base for a Dot style sight. The Micro T1 close from Primary Arms makes a great cheap one that fits with a back up or truck gun. I love my AR15 but something about AK rifles suck me in. Lastly if you want to make it look nice a Wood stock set from Iron Wood designs makes for a damn good looking rifle ,or if your into the plastic the K-var stuff. Good luck now go beat the snot out of it. |
| Nothing wrong with a WASR if you see it for yourself before you buy to make sure theres no problems with canted sights/gasblock. The finish on the ones I have as far as metal goes was fine, but I did have to re-do the stocks. I got a Kvar laminate palm swell forend and buttstock for one, and then refinished the forend on my other in russian red and added a side-folder stock. I also did the computer tab magwell fix, and found it made rapid loading easier. I thought that fitting the mags to the gun was because it was a WASR but after awhile I found there is so much mag variation between even mags of the same make that its a standard AK thing and not totally attributed to the romys. Honestly Id rather keep my WASRs than have my friends MAK or Arsenal. |

| Thanks guys, I appreciate all the suggestions. First I wanted to ask if the three pics of my rifle posted correctly, can everyone see them? I will have to look into refinishing the wood furniture, that will be a good project to work on. Also, the 75 round drum mentioned above sounds interesting, what make/brand is gtg and where could I find one? |
